Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Cellular Systems Integration Engineer for the global IT Manufacturing Solutions Engineering team to deliver a best in class connectivity experience for all Tesla Vehicles (Model S 3 X Y, Cybertruck, …) and Optimus on Tesla premises. The role involves understanding internal customer requirements, planning and executing test procedures, rolling out ESIM seamlessly and reliable integration into Tesla’s private 5G network infrastructure.
The ability to work independently and creatively to solve challenging problems is of paramount importance. This position involves working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with tight timing constraints.
- Understand current and future connectivity requirements of Tesla vehicles and Optimus for on premise use cases like in manufacturing shopfloors, outdoor areas, and R&D labs. Identify bottle necks/user degradation and create a deployment strategy focused on problem solving
- Design end-to-end test plans, procedures and scripts for Tesla’s private 5G protocol stack. Ensure ultra-reliability and high data rates are achieved with any private cellular infrastructure vendor and deployment model globally
- Plan and perform Device Under Testing (DUT) practices for Tesla’s vehicle and Optimus Telematic Connectivity Unit (TCU) running on private 5G SA networks
- Collaborate with external solution vendors to integrate a seamless ESIM capability towards any private cellular infrastructure. Plan, test and scale end-to-end ESIM integration for vehicle assembly manufacturing operations
- Collaborate with network operations team to ensure vehicles and Optimus receive superb quality of service without compromising other use cases
- Support to Tesla’s global wireless connectivity solution development process
- 15% travel required as necessary
- Excellent understanding of LTE, 5G NR and 3GPP protocol stacks
- Experience within automotive working on connectivity and/or telematic solutions with high level of mobility
- Working knowledge with cellular DUT (Device Under Testing) procedures
- Good understanding of networking concepts (Ethernet, TCP/IP, etc.)
- Familiarity with CBRS/private 5G networks is a strong plus
- Familiarity with QXDM/ROMES diagnostics tools is a plus
- Familiarity with other wireless technologies (WiFi/Bluetooth/BLE) is a plus
- Excellent organizational skills and solid team player
- Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot complex technical problems

$104,000 - $348,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
