JOB SUMMARY: The Civil/Site Engineer provides general support to the Director of Landscape Architecture on site work projects.This position assists with conceptual level designs and estimates while preparing schematic, design development and construction documentation complete with required technical specifications. Tasks will include all aspects of landscape and site design and construction drawing set production at a range of scales from master planning documentation to detailed site design. Adept communication is required to effectively collaborate with team members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinate with the Director of Landscape Architecture for project specific needs and expectations.
- Collaborate with project managers on schedules, budget, progress and necessary support from other departments.
- Provide context for the initial design phase of projects, considering stakeholders, client values, and history and ecology of sites.
- Create and compile schematic and construction documentation.
- Perform stormwater drainage analysis, design storm drainage conveyance systems, and develop Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP)
- Create and compile construction details for use in construction document sets reflective of best construction practices.
- Actively participates in project coordination meetings.
- Perform site visits photographing existing conditions, general site analysis, and compiling all relevant data.
- Prepare construction cost estimates, including researching current cost factors and evaluating recent bid activity.
- Modify technical specifications specific to each project as required
- Perform Construction SWPPP Inspections
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or Civil Engineering.
- 5+ years’ experience in site related design and construction documentation. A focus on education markets or athletic planning and design is preferred.
- General understanding of NYS DEC related storm water management requirements in relation to construction projects.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Sketchup, Adobe, Bluebeam and GIS.
- Ability to critically analyze the functional aspects of a site, topography, movement of water, ecology, human movement through space.
- Flexibility balancing design vision with client and project goals.
- Diligent about adhering to drawing standards and best management practices.
- Ability to understand how a project comes together from start to finish.
- Excellent verbal and written skills, including ability to present to others in small and large group formats.
- Ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities effectively, while delivering quality work on time.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a priority on cost effectiveness and client satisfaction.
PAY RANGE:
- $70,000 - $110,000 per year depending on experience and licensure.
