Job description

As the Grocery Support Operations - Project Manager, you will be instrumental in leading our facility service teams, ensuring the seamless operation of a US military commissary. This role requires a blend of leadership, project management capabilities, hands-on team support, and a deep understanding of commissary operations, standards, and requirements. Your responsibilities include managing daily operations, project execution, resource allocation, and adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. This is not a “desk job”, so you’ll be expected to take a proactive and hands-on role in supporting your team and driving them to successfully complete all daily objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Direct daily service operations with a focus on planning, scheduling, and resource management. Align activities with protocols, quality standards, and production goals, ensuring operational excellence and meeting federal contract objectives.
  • Team Supervision and Development: Oversee and support a diverse on-site workforce performing custodial, shelf stocking, and warehousing activities, operating across varied shifts and schedules. Responsible for maintaining accurate employee time and attendance records, coordinating comprehensive training and safety programs, and managing employee performance to ensure high standards of productivity and efficiency. Provide effective training, motivation, mentorship, and constructive feedback to all staff. Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment to enhance team dynamics and productivity. Step-in to assist the team as needed with their manual tasks and responsibilities. Propose and implement innovative ideas to enhance productivity within the facility, optimizing operational efficiency.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Commit to exceptionally high levels of customer satisfaction by delivering superior service. Uphold the commissary’s commitment to providing a positive experience that aligns with the mission for every commissary patron.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary liaison for all operational communications with internal teams, external partners, and government stakeholders. Maintain strong, effective relationships with commissary management to support project objectives and operational success.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure strict adherence to federal regulations, store directives, and organizational policies. Maintain consistent, accountable work environments and uphold high service quality standards.
  • Project and Risk Management: Manage special projects and initiatives and conduct risk assessments and implement strategies to efficiently meet objectives. Address and resolve issues arising from staff or government entities, including complaints and grievances, through effective conflict resolution. Proactively escalate issues and seek support from the company’s Regional Director and corporate support teams, as needed.
  • Reporting and Accountability: Compile and submit daily operational data that is verified and complete. Ensure the facility’s condition adheres to the federal contract's quality control standards on a daily basis, creating an inviting shopping environment.
  • Safety and Professional Conduct: Promote a safe workplace by adhering to security protocols and safety standards. Be an exemplary figure of professionalism and dedication, exemplifying high-performance standards and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Flexibility and Stress Management: Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet business needs, including overnight shifts, evenings, or weekends. Prepare to work in high-stress situations, demonstrating calm and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative Environment and Project Management Duties: Collaborate closely with internal teams, including stocking, custodial, warehouse, and management staff. Perform additional project management duties as needed, including scheduling, administrative tasks, and participating in management meetings to ensure the successful operation of the facility. Delegate tasks to Assistant Project Managers and provide close supervision to ensure efficient performance of the team’s core responsibilities for every shift.
  • Additional Duties: Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Regional Director or as operational needs evolve.
Work Environment

  • Performance-Oriented Culture: We thrive in a dynamic, results-focused work environment, where excellence is rewarded.
  • Security and Safety Commitment: Upholding a safe workplace is paramount, adhering strictly to security protocols and safety standards to protect our team and operations. Ensuring compliance with safety protocols during on-site inspections and daily operations is a key responsibility, emphasizing the safety of both staff and customers.
  • Travel Requirements: Occasional travel is necessary to support and oversee commissary operations, ensuring our standards are consistently met across locations.
  • Reasonable Accommodations: We ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided with reasonable accommodations to perform their job functions effectively.
  • Physical Demands: The position involves physical activities such as standing, walking, and bending during on-site inspections and day-to-day operations within the commissary environment.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Flexibility in work schedule, including the willingness to work nights or weekends, is essential for addressing the dynamic needs of our operations and projects.
  • Handling High-Stress Situations: The ability to manage high-stress scenarios, including customer service issues and conflict resolution, is crucial for maintaining operational harmony and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Working closely with various internal teams, such as stocking, custodial, and warehouse staff, necessitates strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit to achieve common goals.
  • Retail/Store Environment Adaptability: The role requires adaptability to working in a retail/grocery store setting, which may involve exposure to different temperatures, noise levels, and direct customer/patron interactions.
  • Multitasking and Prioritization: Effective multitasking and prioritization are essential for managing the broad spectrum of operational duties, project management, and immediate problem-solving.
  • Professionalism: Upholding the highest standards of professional conduct and performance is expected to contribute positively to our workplace culture and overall mission.
