As a Structural Test Engineer Lead supporting the Integration and Test team, you will be supporting our mission to return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth. Lunar Permanence is Blue Origin's team dedicated to developing mission architectures such as our planned Lunar Lander program, Blue Moon (Link: https://www.blueorigin.com/blue-moon ). Our Lunar Permanence team is developing our Lunar Pathfinder mission that will demonstrate the lander's core capabilities - including the privately funded BE-7 landing engine, precision landing sensors, and advanced integrated power and propulsion architecture - on an early New Glenn flight.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, and execute large scale structural qualification tests on test articles and flight hardware
  • Support resource planning including labor and non-labor budgets and schedules
  • Manage risks and opportunities
  • Work with our National Team partners and our NASA customer to develop technical solutions across all stakeholders
  • Work with the structures design team to plan tests of the components and integrated vehicle, ensuring the tests are designed to verify the pertinent requirements
  • Lead test operations, operate test consoles, direct technician work and coordinate with internal customers
  • Troubleshoot issues and anomalies that arise during testing
  • Reduce, analyze, and archive test data to support verification tasks
  • Perform root cause, system hazard analysis and failure investigations
  • Find opportunities for safety improvements and cost savings
  • Proactively prepare status updates and communicates both within the organization and with direct customers
  • Have frequent inter-organizational and customer interactions on difficult technical issues
  • Work independently to determine and develop approaches to solutions
  • Participate in test readiness review, pre and post test briefings, and post test reviews.
  • Manage procedural redlines and updates during test campaigns
  • Coordinate test crews, support equipment and vehicle configurations for testing
  • Enforce safety policies during test planning and operations

Qualifications:
  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • BS in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or related technical discipline
  • Generally 5+ years of applicable experience
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Experience working collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:
  • Experience in Structural Tests of aerospace hardware
  • Experience with participating in NASA technical reviews
  • Experience with space vehicle component, subsystem, or integrated vehicle testing including development and qualification testing
  • Experience with test facility instrumentation and Data Acquisition and Control Systems
  • Understands/experience with hazardous operations
  • Experience with scripting (Python or other scripting language)
