Virginia Peninsula Community College (VPCC) is located on the Virginia Peninsula in the heart of Hampton Roads, a region renowned for being the birthplace of America and home to communities rich in culture and industry. Bordering the Chesapeake Bay, the region boasts beaches, major attractions, world-class museums, and a vibrant visual and performing arts scene. The area is known for its economic vitality, which includes being home to several military bases, ship building facilities, the NASA Langley Research Center and Jefferson Lab, major colleges and universities, and varied commercial industries and enterprises.
VPCC is a comprehensive community college, offering a variety of programs of study leading to an associate's degree, certificate, or career studies certificate. In addition to the many popular transfer degree programs, the college is known for its strong career & technical programs and its outreach to the community as a partner and leader in workforce development.
Founded in 1967, VPCC serves over 8,500 students each year in credit instruction and over 2,500 in non-credit instruction and workforce services. The College is served by over 80 full time faculty, 200 adjunct faculty, and 150 staff members. Faculty and staff are strategic and responsive, committed to understanding and meeting the needs of the region.
The College has two campuses, one in Hampton and the Historic Triangle Campus located in Williamsburg. The College also has a satellite site at the Southeast Higher Education Center in Newport News. The communities served by the College are the Cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the Counties of James City and York.
The Position:
Working under the direction of the Director of Marketing and College Relations, the Campus Photographer / Videographer manages all photography and videography for Virginia Peninsula Community College, both in studio and on location, supporting the goals and priorities established to extend messaging and storytelling for the Marketing department. This position works collaboratively across the college in identifying photo/video needs, art directing, conducting photo and video shoots, producing multimedia stories and maintaining a searchable archive of images and video. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and a dedication to producing high-quality, creative final products. The Campus Photographer / Videographer also maintains and recruits a team of student photographers annually to allow for additional projects. The outputs of this position are utilized across a variety of communications platforms including web, print, digital publications, social media and onsite events.

Major Responsibilities
- Document VPCC life, including events, performances, classes, athletic contests, and other aspects of the College via photo and video.
- Edit photos and videos.
- Maintain an organized archive of College photos and videos in the AIR system.
- Work with the Assistant Director of Marketing, graphic designers, marketing staff, and other departments to provide photo and video content for various College needs.
- Working with academic departments to create training videos and related media.
- Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with staff, faculty, students, alumni, and community members.
- Other duties as assigned.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
Required
- Significant demonstrated experience in video and digital photography, including professional-level techniques and standards, conceptualization, production, and project management both in the studio and in the field.
- Experience with MacOS computers and Canon photo/video equipment.
- Experience managing photo/video equipment and archives.
- Must be able to travel to different event locations (state vehicle may be available).
- Must have a valid driver's license or ability to obtain one by hire date.
Knowledge
- General knowledge of best practices for troubleshooting video, audio and lighting equipment as well as video compression output and encoding.
- Working knowledge of lighting for both video and photography projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of marketing, editorial, creative and production processes that utilize photo and video content.
- Knowledgeable of Project Management principles and best practices.
Skills
- Must have superb producing and editing skills.
- Expertise using photo and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Premiere Pro.)
- Strong interpersonal skills in coordinating the process, moving the work forward and meeting budgets and timelines.
- Skilled storyteller with the ability to capture poignant artistic moments; editing for emotion, expertise, brevity and/or clarity.
- Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Abilities
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple, concurrent projects and clients with varying needs.
- Ability to adapt to various shooting conditions and adjusting to different styles or preferences.
Additional Considerations
- Experience working in higher education or government agency.
- Knowledge of Monday.com or other project management software.
- Experience producing compelling content for social media channels.
