Camp Counselor - Sports Camps
PAY: $15.85 per hour
Spend Summer 2024 as a role model, developing positive relationships with youth in our community. Play, coach, and more, as you help campers develop new skills and friendships.

Essential Functions

What You'll Do At Work
Participate! Actively engage while supervising campers. Encourage and invite participation, set an example for positive and inclusive play. Play basketball, volleyball, softball, and more!
Be a Leader. Manage your campers and their behavior. Teach the fundamentals of basketball, volleyball, softball, and other sports. Lead drills, games, and activities. Promote skill development, creativity, and exploration. Assist campers with special needs, make adaptations to games and activities for inclusive play.
Communicate with Campers. Develop relationships with campers, be empathic, build trust, and display patience. Mediate and resolve camper conflicts.
R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Learn, serve, and work together to build a community where people thrive by upholding the Town's values, RESPONSIBILITY, EQUITY, SAFETY, PROFESSIONALISM, ETHICS, COMMUNICATION, and TEAMWORK.
Attend to injuries. Provide first aid. Complete and submit reports. Inventory and restock supplies. Perform C.P.R. and utilize A.E.D.
Learn and Grow. Attend and participate in staff orientation, trainings, and meetings. Develop relationships with co-counselors, give and receive feedback, and provide input.
Support Camp. Set up, break down, and maintain supplies and equipment. Clean and maintain safe spaces. Be flexible and adapt to changes; assist and support where needed.
Where You'll Work
You'll be working both indoors and outdoors, at and in recreation centers, schools, parks, playgrounds, and trails. Camps run during summertime, and you may experience hot temperatures and inclement weather.
When You'll Work
You'll be required to attend up to 40 hours of orientation and trainings which will take place between June 10 and June 23, 2024.
June 24 - August 9, 2024, you'll work anywhere between 20 and 25 hours per week, Monday through Fridays between the hours of 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Some rare evening and weekend work may be required. Additional evening and weekend work may be optional to help support athletics programs.
The Town celebrates Independence Day on Thursday, July 4, 2024. There will be no camp, July 1-5, 2024.

Minimum Qualifications
You Should Apply if You
- Are 16 years of age or older.
- Enjoy working with youth, playing games, and being creative.
- Want to discover new things and work to overcome challenges.
- Want to get paid while having FUN!
Preference to those that apply who
- Have experience working with youth in a sports camp or similar setting.
- Speak well enough to effectively communicate with campers and/or their parents in Burmese, Karen, Spanish, and/or Mandarin.
- Are 21 years of age or older with a valid North Carolina Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
- Have experience working with children on the autism spectrum, with Down Syndrome, or with other developmental disabilities.
Supplemental Information
Work Environment:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve swimming. The employee may be exposed to noise, infectious and/or contagious diseases, inclement weather and extreme temperatures.
Physical Demands:
Work is typically performed while walking, standing, running, bending, crouching, swimming or stooping. Employee will occasionally lift light and heavy (50 pounds) objects.
Special Requirements:
This classification has been designated as Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Temporary (Program Suppport) employees are not eligible to receive benefits.
