Job Description:
The Buyer is responsible for processing purchase orders for hospital supplies and equipment while focusing on cost containment strategies.
- Processes placement and follow-up of purchase orders for supplies, capital equipment and services.
- Acquires the necessary data for the composition, distribution and analysis of supply and equipment bids.
- Negotiates contracts and recommends actions based on a collaborative analysis of the bid results, promotes utilization of GPO contracts when appropriate.
- Serves as liaison between Fairfield Medical Center vendors and manufacturers, internal customers and physicians.
- Counsels customers on ordering practices and methods.
- Interviews sales representatives in a professional manner.
- Supports the Value Analysis process.
- Coordinates corrective action when problems are identified.
Job Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred.
- Two years previous experience as a Buyer or in another position that has purchasing responsibility required.
- Assertiveness and negotiation skills.
- Competent in Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Knowledge of healthcare purchasing policies and procedures preferred. Experience with an automated purchasing system required.
Exerting up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible up to 10 pounds amount of force often.
