Description:

OCE is currently recruiting for a Braille Program Specialist. This position will be integral in the development of a braille training and production program, based out of the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, Oregon. OCE, acting as a sub-awardee of the DOC, will be responsible for the implementation and oversight of two braille training and production sites within a three-year grant period. This position is at the forefront of these efforts. The successful candidate will need to be able to evolve as the program does; going from program development and implementation to sustainability and production. Work is performed to meet grant deliverables with the ultimate goal of a sustainable business model in the end. Role and Responsibilities:

  • Provide input on recruitment guidelines for braille participants
  • Participate in the interview process for braille participants
  • Recommend program guidelines and service delivery methods to OCE program staff
  • Establish guidelines for developing an in-house Tactile Graphics Certification
  • Act as an advisor to the AIC participants including providing feedback on course materials
  • Communicate and disseminate information, explain program rules and guidelines to OCE staff and program participants
  • Establish process for gathering and tracking of the required performance measures as outlined in the grant
  • Monitor program outcomes, evaluate results, and recommend program improvements
  • Remain current on all braille policies, practices, guidelines, and regulations
  • Facilitate the exchange of completed work and tests between AICs and the National Federation for the Blind, the American Printing House for the Blind, and associated organizations for grading and return
  • Analyze program activities and prepare budget expense requests; monitor and track program expenses; coordinate program activities to reflect the budget requirements
  • Create and maintain databases of program information; track, record, and compile information to produce reports of program activity.
  • Supervise participants in the program

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be certified as a Braille Transcriber through the National Federation of the Blind, or able to complete Braille Literacy certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Pass an initial and annual Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) criminal background check screening
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening as a condition of employment
