The incumbent produces Birth Certificates for newborn infants, assists in maintaining departmental records relating to births, and submits information to the appropriate agencies.

Minimum Qualifications

• Recent experience in a hospital/clinic setting.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Excellent Organizational skills
• Detail-Oriented
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities
• Strong customer service and communications skills
• Ability to receive constructive feedback and apply to professional practice
• Ability to give feedback and communicate concerns with colleagues and leadership
• Ability to work efficiently under time constraints
• Ability to adapt to fluctuations in workload
• Knowledgeable of all Federal (HIPAA) and State of California rules and regulations regarding the release of personal health information.
• Knowledgeable of hospital procedures related to the release of protected health information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent experience with data entry
• Experience with Electronic Birth Registration System (EBRS) and/or generation of Birth Certificates
• Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR)
• Experience working in Obstetrics and/or Pediatrics units

Department Description

The department is made up of the University Birthing Suites and Women’s Pavilion. The Women’s Pavilion cares for a wide variety of female medical surgical patients (i.e., trauma, surgical oncology, urology, gynecology), as well as postpartum, antepartum, and newborns. The University Birthing Suites is a comprehensive labor and delivery unit with the ability to care for high-risk women throughout the pregnancy and postpartum period. This position will work on both the University Birthing Suites and Women's Pavilion.
