Catch is a seed stage startup in the healthcare technology space focused on delivering personalized insights regarding risk for chronic disease and care plans to extend healthy years.
We are looking for an experienced Master’s or PhD-level biostatistician to help build multifaceted risk models using large-scale biomedical databases. This individual will be responsible for working with experienced clinician researchers to build and update dynamic risk models to predict various chronic diseases. This role requires strong technical skills and experience building lifetime risk models with large databases using advanced machine learning techniques (CART, random forests, boosting, SVM, regularization techniques, etc.). This individual may be eligible for co-authorship in academic publications in leading biomedical journals resulting from such work.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and validate risk models using advanced machine learning techniques in large-scale databases with clearly documented and reproducible statistical code
- Interface with tech agency to implement risk models as risk calculators
- Regularly update risk models based on new literature or additional linked databases
- Create technical reports and lay-person summaries on methodologies used and model performance
Experience:
- A Master’s or doctoral degree in a relevant field such as statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or computational genomics
- Experience working with UK Biobank, SEER, and other large-scale biomedical databases
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to critically evaluate, clean, wrangle, and interpret complex data
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts clearly and concisely
- Attention to detail, and the ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and meet deadlines
- Comfort with ambiguity, and flexibility to work in an early stage, fast-paced environment
- Proficient in using relevant software and tools for data analysis and research evaluation, such as SAS, STATA, R, or Python
- Experience working with genomic data preferred
