JOB SUMMARY
At Houston Methodist, the Biomedical Radiology Services (Svcs) Engineer position is responsible for repairing and inspecting of radiology equipment for safety and performance, and documenting findings. This position has a direct impact on safety, quality improvement, process improvement, utilization, adoption, and efficiency of the organization's patient care radiology equipment program. Ensuring full compliance with all manufacturers, regulatory, institutional, and departmental guidelines, the Biomed Radiology Svcs Engineer position instructs clinical personnel in the proper operation of radiology equipment. This position is responsible primarily for providing on-the-job training in radiology equipment maintenance, working with hospital inspections/audits, and serving as technological consultants for other hospital staff (i.e., physicians, administrators, IT, etc.)

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE - 20%

- Provides in-service training for physicians, nurses, Biomedical department staff and other contract personnel in the proper and safe operation of radiology equipment and emerging technologies and effective use of current systems. (EF)

SERVICE - 25%
- Performs repair and calibration of radiology equipment. Maintains operational status of test equipment and tools. (EF)
- Ensures timely dispatch closure for all installations, field modifications and upgrades. Assists with technician service calls and serves as an escalation point of contact. (EF)
- Troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs assigned patient medical equipment as per manufacturer established specifications. Defines and evaluates technical problems and develops possible solutions. (EF)
QUALITY/SAFETY - 30%
- Performs operational, safety, and performance tests of radiology equipment according to manufacturer's specifications and established policies and equipment maintenance standards. (EF)
- Identifies and reports unsafe or malfunctioning equipment and unsafe operational practices to department management. Participates in root cause analysis meetings. Reports any unsafe practices of situations with potential for patient or personnel harm to department management. (EF).
- Collaborates with vendor and performs evaluation of clinical equipment and accessories to assure compliance with the safety, network security and efficacy requirements. (EF)
- Participates in continuous improvement activities by identifying and appropriately escalating process and product quality gaps, providing solutions when possible. (EF)
- Organizes and coordinates maintenance activities and related documentation. (EF)
FINANCE - 15%
- Recommends or establishes inventory of replacement parts and accessories for radiology equipment. Uses data from Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to identify cost saving opportunity through changes in maintenance strategy or replacement of equipment and systems. (EF)
- Consults with various stakeholders to evaluate needs, desires, projections, costs, and technical considerations for current and future needs and recommend optimum equipment utilization (EF)
GROWTH/INNOVATION - 10%
- Evaluates and recommends new ideas and technology that improve medical equipment quality, safety, and service. Recommends modifications to radiology equipment. (EF)
- Establishes rapport with other hospitals through biomedical network connections to keep abreast with best practices of the industry. Seeks opportunities to identify self-development needs and takes appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an on-going basis. (EF)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
o Associate’s degree in related field OR successful completion of Military BMET training
o Formal technical school training in radiology equipment service
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
o Five years of experience in a healthcare-related environment
