Billing Specialist

Title:Billing Specialist

Job Purpose:

You are tasked with collecting payments and making payments arrangements for patient accounts. You'll also maintain an accurate accounting of patient account balances, generate, and send out claims to third party payers and statements to patients, while following up on past due accounts. This position reports to the Billing Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Updates and obtains medical authorization for payment from insurers.
• Gathers information needed to secure payment from third party insurances.
• Processes locked charts in the EHR and when the chart and coding is complete, electronically send the claim to the TriZetto Clearinghouse for submission to the third-party payer.
• Monitors the patient's claim to assure that the claim is adjudicated within 45 days of submission.
• Will submit inquiries if claims are not adjudicated within 45 days or if a claim is denied
• After the third-party payment has been received, verifies that correct adjustments have been made and the remaining balance is due from the patient.
• Establishes payment arrangements on current and delinquent patient accounts.
• Contacts and follows up with individuals to reconcile accounts.
• Runs reports out of the EHR system as requested
• Follows all HIPAA, state, and federal laws and standards.

• Job Type: Full-Time
• Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM

Qualifications:

• Education: Associate's Degree is Preferred
• License: Billing & Coding certification is Preferred
• Experience: 1-2 years of billing experience in a medical, healthcare, or dental office setting is Preferred
