What are we looking for in a Behavioral Health Specialist?
The Behavioral Health Specialist for the Youth Mobile Outreach team responds in the community to requests for youth outreach services throughout Kittitas County. The goal of the Youth Mobile Outreach team is to reduce the use of emergency departments, hospitals, and detention centers for young people experiencing a crisis by offering an alternative for support and access to services in the community when a mental health emergency does occur. The Behavioral Health Specialist meets with youth who are experiencing a crisis and works to de-escalate and stabilize the crisis and connect the youth and their family with services. The Behavioral Health Specialist also completes screenings and assessments to better understand the contributing factors to the crisis and then provide resources and skill-building that will help the youth and their family more effectively manage the mental health concerns. The schedule for this role is Monday-Friday 10am-7pm.
Behavioral Health Specialist duties may include:

  • responding to requests for outreach by community partners, families, schools, or law enforcement and meeting with the identified youth to de-escalate and stabilize the crisis
  • completing screenings and assessments to determine factors contributing to the crisis, relevant history, strengths, and available resources
  • requesting crisis evaluation by a DCR when needed
  • completing crisis & safety planning with the youth and their family
  • coordinating with other treatment teams and service providers to connect the youth and families with services and resources
  • assessing clients for safety and risk to self or others and taking appropriate crisis intervention steps when indicated
  • completing all clinical documentation in a timely manner
  • participating in the rotation for after-hours on-call coverage

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field
  • Must be eligible for MHP designation
  • Must be eligible for registration as Agency Affiliated Counselor
