Job Title:Banquet Server
Department: Café and Events
Reports to: Café and Catering Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Employment Status: Part-Time/Casual, can average of 5-20 hours per week, maximum 29
Event Hours: Typically evenings and weekends, occasional variation
Hourly Compensation: $18.25 when serving banquet style for events

SUMMARY
This is a multi-dimensional food and beverage service opportunity working across all areas of the Events department to include set up and tear down, serving events (private and public), and clearing. A Banquet Server ensures that the food service operation enhances the quality of the Museum’s visitor experience, provides efficient and friendly customer service, and consistently presents a professional approach to overall food and beverage service operations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Follows direction from Lead Banquet Servers, Café & Catering Manager, and Head of Special Events and Food Services
  • Assists with the set up and break down of the banquet area to include removal of all food and beverage items
  • Relays food and beverage orders to guests
  • Prepares beverages, bartends if able
  • Maintains a high level of cleanliness and awareness of sanitary practices
  • Anticipates guests’ needs and exceeds customer service expectations
  • Maintains composure in a fast-paced environment
  • Relays important information about orders, allergies, and special requests to the appropriate staff
  • Responds urgently and appropriately to any concerns
  • Assists kitchen staff with basic food preparation and various cleaning tasks
  • Presents in professional appearance and mannerisms
  • Works in a team-oriented environment and communicates effectively to other staff
  • Performs other duties as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Food service or customer service experience preferred
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES, AND ABILITIES
  • Maintains basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and use of all related equipment.
  • Must be a responsible self-starter, be able to follow instructions delivered in verbal or written form.
  • Knowledge of appropriate food service sanitation standards essential; clean and professional personal appearance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with other members of the staff.
  • Works well under pressure and deals with the multi-tasking of a busy commercial kitchen while assuring that all details receive appropriate attention; must be able to handle immediate changes in plans due to customer demands and needs, availability of products, and other unforeseen problems.
  • Dedication to providing outstanding customer service.
  • Must be willing and able to work as needed – hours will include some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must pass a background check.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Standard commercial kitchen work environment with related heat generated by ovens and ranges and noise from equipment. Position requires the ability to remain on feet for duration of shift. Position requires the ability to visually monitor product, operate all commercial appliances, and communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors. Regularly lifts and moves cases of produce and other foodstuffs and dishware which can weigh up to 50 lbs. Events are held across campus and may occasionally result in exposure to uncomfortable weather conditions.
