GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The position plays a critical role for Curt Gowdy State Park and the state as a whole. The incumbent is the face of the park for most visitors, the first and sometimes only park personnel they see. Customer service is the top priority. It's a fun and fast-paced position at one of the premier State Parks in Wyoming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
  • Ensure a high level of customer service for the park.
  • Ensure visitors' needs are professionally met.
  • Explain park regulations and policies.
  • Provide information on Wyoming's cultural and natural resources, recreational opportunities, and local, regional, and statewide events as requested.
  • Create a positive Wyoming experience to promote longer stays and repeat trips to our wonderful state.
  • Coordinate, train and actively participate with seasonal and volunteer workers (with direction from the Superintendent).
  • Direct seasonal and volunteer workers in all aspects of cleaning and running the Visitor Center, including public spaces, showers, restrooms, and the conference room. This should be done in conjunction with the Asst. Superintendent to create efficiency. Keep bi-weekly notes on all of the visitor center supplies. Coordinate with maintenance staff to procure supplies before we run out.
  • Set expectations for fee staff.
  • Check-in visitors arriving with overnight reservations. Complete the required bookkeeping, and reporting of all fees and reservations collected in the Visitor Center. This includes rental fees and/or reservations for Hynds Lodge, Amphitheater, Camp Jack, group shelters, archery range, shower facilities, and the visitor center conference room, as well as the regular day-use fee sales, annual permit sales, overnight camping sales, and merchandise sales. Must use the accounting tools the state provides. Follow all park and state rules/laws for accurate and safe money collection, reporting, and deposit.
  • Collect cash register receipts, credit card receipts, checks, and cash from the fee booths at Crystal Reservoir, Granite Reservoir, and the Curt Gowdy Visitor Center. Additionally, coordinate with maintenance staff to collect fee canister envelopes and accurately account for those monies. Complete all necessary reports to track, balance, and report sales made by the fee collectors to the Headquarters office.
  • Communicate via phone, letter, fax, or email, fielding inquiries and or needs for Wyoming visitors, public events, government agencies, community services, museums, travel centers, WYDOT, etc. Collect and sort incoming mail. Respond to emails and calls within 24 hours of receiving them.
  • Obtain from Federal and State agencies, private agencies, and travel and tourism centers the educational and vacation material needed to distribute to visitors and residents about Wyoming. Stock and maintain the brochure rack.
  • Print and distribute reports from the campsite reservation system. Ensure park maintenance and law enforcement staff have the reservation information (names, arrival dates, departure dates) and report any discrepancies to park or law enforcement staff.
  • Help keep the snow and ice off walkways and stairs at the visitor center. At least once a week and twice a week in the summer, collect shower money. Be the day-to-day contact for our concessions and involve the superintendent if changes to our agreements are required.

PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants with three or more years of professional work experience in customer service, and money handling and reporting.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to keep the public facilities clean and safe.
  • Ability to react decisively and professionally in handling emergencies and angry customers.
  • Skills in First-aid and CPR.
  • Skills in bookkeeping and balancing sales receipts.
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel.
  • Skills in the use of a computer, fax, copier, and office equipment.
  • Ability to lift heavy boxes and brochures.
  • Ability to be a team player and to work independently.
  • Experience in overseeing and training staff and volunteers, utilizing leadership strategies to get the job done. Prior experience in multitasking.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Business)
Experience:
Acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Assistant I
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Assistant I

None

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light to heavy items, driving an automobile, etc.
  • Snow removal at the Visitor Center is required.
