Audit and Assurance Manager

Job Classification:

Reports To: Director of Risk Management
Senior Leader: CFO

Job Overview
Responsible for performing regular deposit account and loan audits to ensure a high level of accuracy, review of high-risk transactions and maintenance of policies, procedures, and regulations to mitigate risk to the credit union. Acts as additional support for BSA/OFAC reporting, internal and external audit, regulatory examinations, and compliance functions.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

Internal Audit

  • Conducts deliberate and thorough audits on high-risk transactions, such as: mortgage loans, consumer loans, new accounts, IRA’s, certificates, address changes, check holds, dormant and closed accounts.
  • Reviews various transactions for proper authorization, approval, and propriety.
  • Maintains all audit working papers and documentation.
  • Maintain objectivity and impartiality in performing the audits and reviews.
  • Communicates and monitors errors to ensure corrections are made in a timely manner.
  • Tracks all audit results and provides regular reporting on quality levels at individual, branch, and organization levels through BHCCU’s audit tracking platform.
  • Works closely with the Director of Retail Operations and Staff Development teams to identify key opportunities for training and developing staff.
  • Assists with developing courses and curriculum to address gaps in employee knowledge and provides effective training.
  • Acts as a resource to staff. Works closely with staff to enhance knowledge and increase accuracy.
  • Acts as the primary backup Bank Secrecy Officer and Office of Foreign Asset Control Compliance Officer and performs the required responsibilities of these positions as outlined in the BSA and OFAC policies.
  • Aids the BSA Officer to ensure accurate and timely compliance reporting as required, including Currency Transaction Reports (CTR) and Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR).
  • Assists with the investigation of significant suspected fraudulent activity in the absence of the Fraud and BSA/OFAC officer, and documents and reports such activities.
  • Maintains current knowledge and understanding of all state and federal laws, rules and regulations, operations of all related departments, along with regulatory requirements and audit techniques.
  • Assists with regulatory examinations and external audits by providing requested reports, data, or information necessary to complete their work.
  • Assists with compliance and internal audit related duties.
  • Participates on internal teams and committees as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCIES

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • Associate degree or an equivalent level of knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through work experience.
  • Three to five year of similar or related experience
  • Thorough knowledge of and extensive experience working with banking and/or credit union regulations.
  • Experience in a mentoring or teaching role in a financial institution preferred.
  • Experience in auditing or compliance in a financial institution preferred.
  • Successfully pass the background and credit screening.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
