Associate Vice President, Life Insurance - New Business Operations
Location: Montpelier, VT or Addison, TX
This leadership position plays a critical role in Customer and Agent Experience within the New Business area of our Customer Innovation Group (CIG) and will partner with other teams across multiple locations to provide strategy, direction, leadership, and management. This position will lead several teams located on our Addison, Texas Campus as well as our Montpelier, Vermont Campus. These teams manage different aspects of the New Business process and many are aligned to support key distribution relationships. This role shares responsibility with another leader in New Business and collectively oversees all activities from Life insurance application submission to the issuance of a policy contract.
Key Responsibilities
  • Establishes, implements, and communicates the strategic direction of the organization's operational goals, collaborating with other divisions and departments to carry out the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Provides leadership to ensure all activities are consistent with our goals, guidelines and culture by monitoring trends and evolving our strategy to keep up with changing customer expectations.
  • Ensures that departmental decisions, project plans, and budgets such as those for staffing, development, and team execution align across the larger team.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems with the goal of improving the use of resources and materials.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in Life insurance operations and serves on industry committees to share knowledge and increase National Life Group brand.
  • Actively participates on collaborative panels, committees and teams with Marketing, Distribution, Operations, Finance, and other key areas to drive overall business results.
  • Develops and maintains productivity and quality standards through audit and other review mechanisms to ensure policy, procedures, and objectives are carried out.
  • Develops teams and leaders, providing coaching on growth and career planning to aid in succession management.
  • Proactively partners with distribution leadership and external agencies to improve presence, solve problems and gather the feedback to continually improve the customer experience driving critical value creation and competitive differentiation in the marketplace.
  • Oversees team staffing models and keeps staffing levels consummate to achieve desired service metrics.
  • Is a key member of the Business Acquisition leadership team. Should be able to interact with other per leaders of Underwriting and Claims.

Critical Skills and Experience Requirements
The qualified candidate will have substantial experience in Life InsuranceNew Business Operations marked by strong business relationships, skilled leadership and business results. Must have 10+ years of Operational leadership experience and a four-year college degree with a strong academic record. Advanced education (Masters) is preferred.
Must possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check
  • Ability to interact with agents and field leaders. Presentation skills are a plus.

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees.
Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position. National Life offers a competitive total rewards package which includes: a 401(k) retirement plan match; medical, dental, and vision insurance; a company funded wellness account for director and below employees; 10 paid holidays; a generous paid time off plan (22 days of combined time-off for non-exempt employees and exempt employees have discretion in managing their time, including scheduling time off in the normal course of business, but in no event will exempt employees receive less sick time than required by state or local law); 6 weeks of paid parental leave; and 6 weeks of paid family leave after a year of full-time employment.
