Occupational SummaryThe Office of Counsel at A Private Research University is seeking an experienced attorney who will handle a variety of legal issues relating to general health care transactions and corporate regulatory matters, and who will have the opportunity to assume other responsibilities as needed. Experience in the following areas is preferred: health care business transactions and contracts, including corporate governance, value-based contracting and billing compliance, and related health care regulatory compliance issues.
Work Performed
- Have responsibility for general health care transactions and contracts, and related regulatory compliance issues, including corporate governance, billing, payor contracting, value-based contracts, and other subject matter areas depending on the needs of the office and the expertise and interests of the successful candidate.
- Provide proactive legal advice to A Private Research University Health System and Duke University School of Medicine management on various business structure and contract issues, including related regulatory issues such as Stark, Anti-kickback, and Civil Monetary Penalties regulations.
- Draft and negotiate significant contracts for A Private Research University and Duke University Health System and their affiliates.
- Advise on various corporate governance matters.
- Provide guidance and assistance to other counsel in a highly collaborative fashion.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: LLB or JD degree. Licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina or become licensed within 12 months of employment.
- Experience: At least seven years of experience practicing law in relevant subject matter areas.
- Skills: Ability to work in a team-oriented high-volume in-house law office environment. Must have strong research, writing, problem solving and analytical skills, good judgment, a creative “can-do” attitude, be reliable and independent, and have the ability to manage effectively competing and changing priorities. Keen sense of ethical obligations in the in-house setting.
Education:
LLB or JD degree. Licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina or become licensed within 12 months of employment.
Experience:
Must have at least 7 years experience as an attorney.
