Inclusive Dance Teacher

Art of Movement at the Workhouse, located in Lorton, VA, is expanding its horizons with the introductions of the Forever Moving program. We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Inclusive Dance Teacher to join our team and lead bi-weekly dance classes on Saturdays for young adults and/or children with intellectual disabilities. Additionally, the successful candidate will be part of the substitute list for four Wednesday classes, covering a range of diverse groups including seniors, adults with intellectual disabilities, individuals with dementia, and creative dance classes for kids aged 8-11.

To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:

1. Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching creative dance, with additional knowledge of brain dance considered a valuable asset.

2. Demonstrated training or teaching experience in Inclusive Dance education, with a focus on adapting teaching methods for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

3. A deep understanding of various intellectual disabilities and the ability to tailor dance classes to accommodate and celebrate diverse abilities.

4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with support staff, parents, and caregivers, ensuring a seamless and inclusive learning experience for every dancer.

5. Genuine passion for creating an inclusive and supportive environment where every dancer feels valued, respected, and encouraged.

Prospect teachers must undergo a background check, attend a 1-hour orientation covering general studio operations, and complete a class observation for each class to mirror the current instructor’s approach.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $60.00 per hour

Expected hours: 1 – 6 per week
