Job Summary
Functions in an entry level capacity. Responsible for performing routine aspects of consulting and specialty assignments requiring knowledge and application of principles in practice area. Works under close supervision of a team leader.
Key Responsibilities
Our Natural Resources Biologists provide our clients with environmental and ecological reviews, studies, and monitoring, and support environmental permitting associated with the siting, design, construction, and operation of a wide variety of infrastructure projects across the United States and beyond. They operate both independently and as part of a team supporting our clients by providing information pursuant to permitting and other environmental-related issues. They support the organization, planning, and execution of a wide range of aquatic and/or terrestrial biological desktop and field studies, including but not limited to freshwater and marine aquatic resource surveys, identification, and delineation including submerged aquatic vegetation (seagrass), corals, and fishes. They also support wetland delineation and functional assessments, threatened/endangered species reviews and/or surveys, and habitat assessments/inventories. Key responsibilities of this position include a commitment to perform the duties for onsite services for projects located in Florida and across the contiguous United States and support consulting and permitting services to clients regarding Sections 401, 404, and 408 of the Clean Water Act, and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act. Natural Resources Biologists may also be tasked to contribute to biological resource portions of environmental impact analyses (e.g., NEPA) and related state-specific comprehensive permit applications by analyzing biological data, describing existing environmental conditions and potential project impacts, and developing measures to mitigate impacts. They regularly consult with regulatory agencies at the federal, state, and local level to identify biological study plan requirements and environmental mitigation strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marine sciences, marine biology, Natural Resources biology, environmental sciences, or environmental studies strongly preferred. May also consider other degrees, specialized training, or experience that uniquely qualifies the individual to perform the job responsibilities.
- Ability and a commitment to contribute to desktop and field services. Periodic travel is required.
- Ability to work in adverse environmental conditions; wet, hot, humid, cold, etc.
- Positive, team-first, 'get the job done' attitude.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to balance multiple projects while working under tight deadlines.
