POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Natural Resource Data Technician will be working with and reporting to an environmental team with biological subject matter experts (SMEs) within the Office of Environmental Management (OEM), physical offices at the FDOT Burns Building (noted above). This position's primary responsibilities include supporting OEM NATURAL RESOURCEs related projects and research efforts including but not limited to wildlife camera data analysis, wildlife survey report data collection and collation, wildflower inventory GIS development, occasional field work, and reviewing other pertinent data. The candidate will perform document review, database, and GIS development, reporting and process development, precise data entry, and organization of records. This position may coordinate with staff in other FDOT offices, other agencies, and universities. This position may also perform technical writing and editing, as needed.
This is a moderately independent position responsible for timely and accurate execution of tasks within an established timeframe to support the larger FDOT initiative. Telework is not offered for this position. Attendance and reliability are essential functions of this position and candidates will perform other related duties and tasks as assigned. Anticipated start date immediately follows official hiring.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of NATURAL RESOURCEs (biology, ecology, environmental science) or other environmental-related areas
- Knowledge of the Endangered Species Act and the Florida Endangered and Threatened Species Act
- Knowledge of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), or other associated laws and regulations
- Ability to use GIS tools and applications
- Ability to conduct on-line research and familiarity with digital search platforms
- Ability to collaborate as part of a team
- Ability to work independently with minimal daily oversight, as needed
- Ability to write in a technical style and review technical documents
- Ability to use MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and other applications, as needed
- Ability to follow instructions
- Skilled in being detail oriented, self-motivated, problem solving, and time management tasks
