Overview:  
 
Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) has an opening in our Environmental Department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.

Summary
The Natural Resources Scientist role is responsible for assessing, managing, and mitigating the environmental impacts of engineering projects and ensuring sustainable use of Natural Resources. The ideal candidate is a reliable, trustworthy individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment where collaboration and autonomy are valued.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Lifting and/or occasionally moving up to 35 pounds can be expected, with or without reasonable accommodation.  
Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk and hear. Body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing, with or without reasonable accommodation.  
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment and in the field.
Fieldwork may involve exposure to various environmental conditions, including outdoor work in different weather conditions and potentially remote or challenging locations
This is not a remote position. This role will be based on the selected job posting location.




Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Proficiently operate a computer 
    • Ability to function in a high-stress environment, be a strong multi-tasker, and be a team player
    • Answers client questions and assists them promptly
    • Knowledge and usage of proper format, grammar, spelling, and punctuation  
    • Conduct assessments to determine the potential environmental impacts of engineering projects, including infrastructure development, construction, and industrial processes
    • Evaluate the environmental impact of human activities, projects, or developments and provide recommendations for mitigation and compliance with environmental regulations
    • Utilize tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and statistical models to analyze environmental data and make informed decisions
    • Perform site investigations and surveys to understand the existing environmental conditions, including soil quality, water resources, and ecosystems
    • Regular attendance is required 
    • Follows safety procedures
    • Other duties may be assigned

Required Qualifications:
    • Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver's License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria), may or may not be required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the role
    • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida's Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
    • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or a related field
    • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes
    • Ability to read and write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as writing routine reports and correspondence and speaking effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients 
    • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails
    • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
    • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form

Preferred Qualifications:
    • Previous experience in an A/E/C firm
    • 3-5 years of experience in the same or related field
