Position Summary
The Associate Director/Director will lead the Cellular Phenotype team in the Cellular Therapy Analytical Development (CTAD) organization. In this role, the Associate Director/Director will lead several sub-teams within Cellular Phenotype that are collectively responsible for QC and characterization flow cytometry analytical methods supporting autologous and allogeneic cell therapies. This position is responsible for the selection of technology platforms (e.g. cytometer platforms), the development and qualification of flow cytometry analytical methods, the transfer and implementation of the methods to operational team and QC labs, and the life-cycle management of these methods. The Associate Director/Director will have demonstrated experiences in both clinical and commercial programs, be familiar with industry best practices, and have expertise in phase-appropriate analytical strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive development of analytical strategies to support cell therapies pipeline.
- Lead teams responsible for the technical development of complex analytical flow cytometry assays and implementation of novel technology, including automation and selection of new cytometer platforms.
- Support CMC objectives by providing biological and technical knowledge across programs, and by developing and executing platform strategies.
- Establish best practices for flow cytometry methods by intended use and phase of testing, and to identify areas for improvement to support scalability and reduce resource burden.
- Develop strategies, lead studies and implement changes to improve existing flow cytometry method performance in development and QC settings.
- Regularly present findings and communicates with the Cellular Phenotype team, project teams, QC teams, operations teams, process development teams and other internal/external collaborators, as needed.
- Serve as a flow cytometry and immunology subject matter expert across project, QC and operations teams and contribute to analytical strategy.
- Assist in investigations and troubleshooting flow cytometry analytical methods by designing and overseeing studies and analyzing large data sets with internal colleagues.
- Participate in authoring analytical sections of regulatory filings.
- Proactively support expansion of general working knowledge within the Cell Therapy field and maintain awareness of the competitive landscape.
- Lead technical internal and external forums to share knowledge and approaches related to cellular characterization strategies as they relate to cell-based therapies.
- Actively engage in the development, growth, career planning, and empowerment of individuals and teams through deliberate strategies and work to provide an optimal environment for each member of the team.
Qualifications & Experience
- A doctorate (PhD) with 6-10+ years of experience in Immunology, Cell Biology, or related field.
- Proven leadership skills to positively influence colleagues and key decision-makers.
- Demonstrated excellence in developing, mentoring, and managing staff
- Demonstrated skills working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, influencing direction, voicing an opinion, and communicating effectively
- Familiarity with cellular immunology concepts, techniques, and approaches for phenotypic and functional characterization required.
- Demonstrated expertise in flow cytometry. Experience with BD Flow Cytometer instrumentation (FACSCanto, Fortessa, Symphony, cytoFLEX, etc.). Experiences with flow cytometry analysis software (FlowJo, FSCExpress, etc.) as well as statistical software (JMP, Spotfire, Prism, etc.).
- Proficiency in assay development, qualification, bridging and transfer.
- Experience with life cycle management of analytical methods.
- Knowledge of regulatory guidance and quality standards, with experiences authoring and reviewing regulatory submissions and responses is a plus.
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $149,000-$229,000 (for Washington State) plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).
The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.
Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
