This role is a twelve month, live-out professional exempt position. The primary responsibilities of the Associate Director will include providing individual and systemic care, both reactively and proactively, to on-campus residents as they navigate difficult situations that could disrupt their college experience.

This role also uses data to plan and complete harm reduction strategies within university housing, in alignment with ResX (our residential curriculum) and in partnership with other campus offices. This role liaises with partner offices, such as the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution and the Student Support and Case Management office, to coordinate wrap-around support for on-campus residents. In addition to supporting residents and staff in the areas of student conduct and crisis, this role oversees professional staff recruitment, selection, training, and development.

Strong supervision is important in this role, as this role directly supervises 3-4 Masters-level Assistant Directors, indirectly supports 9-11 entry level staff, and is expected to assist in the facilitation of a culture of care for staff. The Associate Director position will be part of the leadership team that leads the day-to-day operations of the residence hall program which includes 24+ residence hall buildings, apartment communities, 10,000 residents, 50+ professional staff, 500+ student staff and a vibrant Residence Hall Association. The program also has intentional designs in the areas of student engagement, academic initiatives, innovation, and student leadership.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be Supervision Supervise, evaluate, and provide ongoing training and development for 3-4 Master's Level Assistant Directors and 1 Residential Care and Response Manager. Indirect supervision of approximately 9-11 Hall Directors and 130 student staff in assigned residential neighborhoods.

Ensure that all federal & state laws, university policies, and departmental on-call procedures are followed. Coordinate and facilitate on-call and crisis response training for all new Residence Life employees. Ensure direct and indirect reports are prepared to implement Residential Experience (ResX) strategies, RAP, and LLC experiences for first year, upper-class, and graduate and family-focused housing.

Oversee professional staff recruitment, selection, training, and development processes & initiatives. Manage professional staff off-boarding processes, including conducting exit interviews. Assist with goal setting, implementation of the strategic plan, and development of structures and systems that pertain to staffing.

Crisis Response Oversee annual updates to the residence life on-call manuals. Manage the Residence Life Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP). Ensure Residence Life compliance with all Clery reporting requirements Guide Residence Life initiatives to create a seamless operational, developmental and administrative environment that exceeds resident, and campus partner, needs and expectations.

Actively participate in the creation and maintenance of departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) manual. Ensure that staff maintain awareness of campus response protocols and resources. Provide support and follow up as it relates to student conduct and crisis in assigned neighborhoods.

Coordinate closing conduct processes. Serve as primary participant from the Office of Residence Life on the Students of Concern Team for Student Affairs. Assist in the implementation of business continuity plan for residence life and coordinate emergency protocols and response.

Provide direction and oversight for departmental on call process and crisis management policies and procedures. Advocate student concerns to the university and community populations. Serve in an on-call rotation with other Associate Directors and assistant directors to provide administrative backup for emergencies and other evening and weekend consultations with Residence Life staff.

Uphold all departmental and university crisis response policies and procedures. Residence Life Leadership and Operations Actively engage in department-wide operations such as move-in, move-out, and admissions events. Guide Residence Life initiatives to create a seamless operational, developmental and administrative environment that exceeds resident needs and expectations.

Assist in day to day residential operations including facilitation of Residence Life department meetings, serving as backup in the absence of the Director. Communicate and assist with staff and resident support during large facility concerns, natural disasters, and utility outages. Assist with goal setting and strategic planning.

Chair departmental committees and represent the department to the University and Boulder community on committees as needed. Engage regularly with student staff, student leaders, and students, to remain aware of student needs and input. External Relations Establish and maintain relationships with campus partners, primarily the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution, Student Support and Case Management, Counseling and Psychiatric Services, the Office of Victim Assistance, and the University of Colorado-Boulder Police Department.

Serve and lead student affairs committees as assigned. Talk to parents and family members regarding concerns for students in the halls and in Graduate and Family Housing. Assist in response to university initiatives as related to residence life operations.

Fiscal Responsibility Provide oversight of departmental Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) process to ensure mutually beneficial partnerships between Residence Life and campus partners. Oversee the process for tracking and maintaining information related to professional staff recruitment processes. Propose annual budget priorities.

Assist in budget planning for the department, including regular tracking of expenditures from downline, ensuring that the department remains on budget. Assessment Develop, maintain, and report out, tracking for professional staff recruitment and retention efforts in Residence Life as it relates to the departmental and Student Affairs priorities. Compile, analyze, and share data about resident conduct, vandalism, and mental health; striving to develop data-informed strategies that best support all residents.

Support departmental and Student Affairs assessment efforts and projects. What You Should Know Monday- Friday 8-5pm, with some night and weekend responsibilities (flexible work schedules are available). This position does have after hours emergency response responsibilities and serves in an on-call rotation.

What We Can Offer The salary range for this position is $78,800 - $83,000 annually. Onboarding assistance may be offered within departmental guidelines. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis. Five years of experience that demonstrates progressively responsible organizational authority in a residence life/housing program. Supervision of professional and paraprofessional staff.

Experience with analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, group dynamics, crisis management and problem solving skills. What You Will Need Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative supervisory and colleague working relationships. Operational knowledge of technology, computer programs, and budgets.

Demonstrated dedication to the departmental values of safety, resident-focused care, responsibility, inclusive communities, and development. Demonstrated experience with student conduct, crisis intervention and emergency response. What We Would Like You to Have Experience working with other student affairs departments or committees including developing partnerships for joint initiatives.

Experience with program development and assessment for residence hall experiences. Experience with strategic planning and program development. Prior experience supervising mid-level professionals in a university setting.
