JOB SUMMARY:

We’re looking for a dedicated and passionate executive leader to work closely with our Director to guide WPR toward a future that places the audience at the center of all we do.
Under the direction of the Director, the Associate Director will provide administrative leadership, overall operational direction, and management of fiscal and human resources to advance the vision, mission, and values as well as organizational goals. The Associate Director will be WPR’s key leader in building a culture and creating policies that support all of our staff and encourage innovation. The person will bring significant experience in a leadership role and with a demonstrated ability in managing change and innovation and laying out clear plans and expectations.
As a senior leader at WPR, the Associate Director ensures the seamless delivery of WPR’s statewide services by overseeing a portfolio that includes digital services, broadcast operations, and engineering. They will also manage the overall budget in collaboration with the Finance Director, and support the Director of WPR in setting and attaining key organizational goals. The Associate Director will also collaborate with senior leaders across all departments and with leaders at Wisconsin Public Media and PBS Wisconsin. The person must foster transparent communication and cross-departmental collaboration and help us set the course for building WPR for future generations. The Associate Director will also serve as the deputy to the Director and fills in as Director, as needed.

EDUCATION:

Preferred
Bachelor’s Degree in fields of media, journalism, broadcast engineering, technology or public administration.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least three years in a management or supervisory role and a history of staff development.
  • Experience that includes managing budget, policy issues, and program development.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects at once. Ensuring projects stay on schedule.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide leadership in a complex and dynamic organization.
  • Demonstrated history of fostering an inclusive and transparent work environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful experience in public media.
  • Successful experience in radio.

Responsibilities:

Assists with the leadership and direction of public radio and acts on behalf of the director in the director’s absence. Leads administrative activities and serves as the operations lead for the public radio unit. Provides leadership to teams, creates and implements strategies consistent with station strategic priorities, and assists with long range strategic planning. Leads facilities, capital, and budget planning and oversight. Serves as a member of station executive leadership and supervises staff.

  • 15% Participates in the development of strategic planning initiatives and establishes objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources in alignment with the strategic plan
  • 15% Coordinates across all functions including administrative, operational, and financial. Assists in the development of operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and station strategic priorities
  • 15% Oversees station annual budget planning guided by strategic priorities and leads the unit through review and implementation of the budget
  • 15% Leads long range planning for capital, technology, and facility investments. Supervises engineering, operational, and finance units
  • 5% Works with leadership to help shape program and project planning and growth in effective internal and external relationships and partnerships to extend the value, reach, and impact of station work
  • 10% Leads development of operational support and implementation of strategic priorities for content creation and distribution across multiple integrated platforms
  • 15% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 10% Helps lead the overall organization as second in charge and serves in the Director’s stead as needed
