Ensures the quality and continuity of Nursing care for residents throughout the 24-hour continuum. Serves as second in command to the Director of Nursing in the Nursing Department and oversees the Nursing Department in the Director's absence.
Reports to the Deputy and Director of Nursing.
B.S.N. degree from an accredited college or university plus 7 years of RN experience including 3 years of supervisory experience in a hospital or long-term care facility. Connecticut Registered Nurse (RN) license; CPR Certified and trained in infection control practices.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of geriatric nursing practices and management in regard to the operations of a skilled nursing facility.
Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance principles and program evaluation.
Proven knowledge of applicable local, State and Federal regulations for a skilled nursing facility.
Proven knowledge of budgeting principles and practices.
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a personal computer and related software.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Proven ability to deal tactfully and courteously with residents, professionals, and the public.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Recommends and implements new policies and procedures for the Nursing Department.
Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programming for nursing staff.
Leads the Nursing department's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
Assists the Director with the recruitment, selection and retention of Nursing Department employees.
Supervises nursing staff and monitors daily staffing levels.
Plans and coordinates the facility's orientation program.
Acts as a liaison to residents, family members, and community agencies.
Coordinates pre-admission assessment data collection.
Ensures compliance with infection control regulations and maintenance of required records.
Collaborates with other departments to provide comprehensive care to residents.
Ensures compliance with all applicable State and Federal regulations and participates in State, Federal and local surveys and inspections.
Audits resident treatment programs and medications to ensure receipt of appropriate care.
Assists the Director of Nursing in implementing strategic plans and initiatives across the Nursing Department.
Assists with monitoring the Department's supply and equipment budgets.
Supports Town policies and philosophies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
