The primary role of the Associate Design Director, Packaging and Visual Merchandising is to lead the design and evolution of Bumble and Bumble in Packaging and oversee Visual Merchandising. The Associate Design Director must be an innovator with an elevated approach to manifesting the brand’s DNA through Packaging and in-store/in-salon touch points that are both compelling and digestible. The role also requires overseeing how the team’s workload is managed and the ability to be responsible for meeting project timelines and prioritizing workload for the team. This position is supported by a Senior Designer of Packaging, a Senior Designer of (2d) Visual Merchandising, and a Production Designer who primarily supports on Visual Merchandising collaterals. This role is hands-on and involves doing the work as well as managing designers.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead, design, and oversee the packaging design and evolution for the Bumble and bumble brand.
• Manage and develop, Senior Designer of Packaging and Senior Designer of 2d Visual Merchandising.
• Manage Visual Merchandising for specialty-multi retail channels in close partnership with the 360 Campaign team as well as the Global Marketing and North America Marketing partners.
• Manage the Visual Merchandising direction for Bumble and bumble’s two flagship salons in NYC as well as provide guidelines for the assets to be leveraged in the salon network.
• Create innovative, social-ready designs to help drive overall brand strategy.
• Partner with Package Development to select packaging solutions for new product launches.
• Concept and design innovative packaging concepts in line with ELC needs and market trends that also adhere to the brand heritage and DNA.
• Be a leader and inspiration to the Packaging and Visual Merchandising team. Support and develop them to grow.
• Push creativity in every way possible – approach projects with a can-do mentality.
• Ability to synthesize the bigger picture and help digest the needs of briefs.
• Ability to digest feedback and deliver compelling creative.
QUALIFICATIONS
KEY EXPERIENCES
• Differentiated, innovative packaging with an understanding of how to design packaging for a mobile-first world.
• Visual Merchandising experience.
• Keen understanding of current trends in beauty, fashion, design, pop culture and emerging technologies.
• Ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative attitude with an eagerness to work with cross-functional creative, global marketing, north America marketing, package development, etc. Must be willing to roll up sleeves and dive in on a variety of projects small and large.
REQUIREMENTS
• Can-do attitude and creative spirit.
• 5-7 years of related experience with a strong design background including packaging, Visual Merchandising, concept development, production, print design, and typography (experience in beauty, fashion or hair is a plus)
• Must tell a cohesive brand story across touchpoints (requires close partnership with the Senior Manager, 360 Campaign)
• A keen understanding of visual communications in specialty-multi.
• An online portfolio or samples of work demonstrating relevant work experience.
• Excellent visual design aesthetic
• Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite
• Ability to quickly turn around detailed comps/mockups in an iterative environment
• Unwavering attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership
• Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills
• Proven ability to work cross-team, lead the design process, and synthesize feedback and input from stakeholders
• The ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $82,500 to $135,500. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results.
