Job description

The Associate Dean, Communications, Promotion, and Public Affairs is a key member of the Global Public Health (GPH) senior management team. The incumbent will be responsible for creating and managing a comprehensive, integrated communications, public relations, and branding strategy that highlights and promotes the School’s unique strengths to a variety of internal and external constituencies. The Associate Dean will lead media relations, external affairs, internal and external communications, marketing, internal and external events, issues management, crisis and emergency communications, and digital news operations for the School, with the overall goal of telling the School’s story to a broad range of audiences and helping to position the School locally, nationally, and globally to succeed and thrive. The Associate Dean will work with faculty and administrative leaders in the School and University to facilitate faculty engagement with public health policy formation, ensuring that GPH has a vehicle and mechanisms to communicate with the public and a wide variety of stakeholders about important public health issues. Combines an understanding of strategic public communications and brand journalism with government and community affairs, higher education and Public policy.


Required Education:
Master's Degree Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree Public Health or related field.
Required Experience:
10+ years of progressively responsible experience working in higher education, non-profit or other comparable business setting. Must include: Expertise in prioritizing workflow, managing resources, and overseeing staff teams; Detail oriented in coordinating activities; Experience working in interdisciplinary academic programs; and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Experience:
Executive or managerial experience in higher education or a non-profit organization. Demonstrated ability to write or publish on issues related to global health or in one of the departments of the GPH. Familiarity with field of public health and health services; experience working with academic institutions and large de-centralized universities.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to exercise sound judgment and excellent discretion, maintaining the utmost confidentiality. Ability to develop, implement and interpret policies and procedures. Excellent organizational, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. Strong research, writing and presentation skills, and the ability to communicate sensitive information diplomatically both verbally and in writing to individuals at all levels. Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders in a multi-constituency environment. Ability to lead diverse, inter- departmental initiatives, and manage and prioritize complex projects. Ability to forge partnerships, build relationships, and garner support from internal and external constituencies to ensure that individuals and units or departments work together smoothly.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to initiate, lead, develop, and manage implementation of strategic communications, marketing and Public policy services to a diverse audience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $167,000.00 to USD $217,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
