What you'll do:

Individual will be responsible for creating, leading and directing the short and long-term strategies for the  claims discipline to achieve the Company's operational and financial goals. Will collaborate with leaders  across the organization and develop critical external relationships to identify and implement leading-edge marketplace practices securing Pinnacol's competitive advantage. This will include scaling Pinnacol's claim strengths to multi-state claim experiences.  Individual will guide the development of best-in-class claims discipline through intentional curation of culture, philosophy, programs, services,  processes, and performance. Individual will establish priorities, targets and standards (metrics) for the claim disciplines and programs; reviews and evaluates performance; provides feedback and calibrates as needed. Individual will lead, inspire and develop the claims discipline supporting the Company's objective to become a recognized customer experience and insights leader. Will collaborate with leaders to develop a high-performance, high engagement team of insurance professionals achieving operational and financial goals.

What you can expect:

The following demonstrated leadership skills will be necessary to achieve success in this position: 

  • Claims Leadership:  
    • Leads the development and implementation of Pinnacol's best-in-class claims strategy that is  informed by customer-driven insights and leading marketplace practices including: philosophy,  programs, services, business processes, standards, performance, tools, technology, and  analytics.  
    • Clearly defines best-in-class claims performance benchmarks with defined, measurable  outcomes, expectations and performance accountability.  
    • Engages in constant scanning of the external environment for industry-leading tools, technology,  analytics and best practices to continuously improve Pinnacol's claims performance.  
    • Develops and executes approaches that result in a deep understanding of stakeholder needs,  expectations and anticipating future preferences.  
    • Collaborates with AVPs, business directors and discipline directors to set the strategy and  direction for discipline consistency in practices across operations teams ensuring standard work  and business processes are continuously improved.  
    • Leverages customer-driven insights to collaborate with information services and communications  to develop and deploy leading-edge policyholder and injured worker experience-based  resources and tools (web, mobile, social media, etc.).  
  • Operations Leadership:  
    • Develops and executes operational strategies in collaboration with peers, business directors and discipline directors to achieve financial and business objectives (growth, retention, claims  management and customer experience).  
    • Responsible for developing leaders and cultivating a culture of Lean management principles,  continuous learning, improvement, positivity and best-in-class operational performance.
    • Develops trusted influence externally, particularly with agents, and across the organization based  upon breadth and depth of insurance operations, business and marketplace knowledge.  Partners with discipline directors and Pinnacol's corporate compliance advisor to develop and  maintain effective relationships with internal and external auditors, regulatory, legislative and  governmental bodies.  
    • Prudently manage resources within budgetary guidelines according to company policy and within  ethical corporate governance guidelines.  
    • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.

  • Must be able to establish and maintain relationships with strategic business partners and must be  comfortable bargaining and negotiating with partners to achieve goals.  
  • Must possess strong, decisive decision-making skills, being persuasive and assertive, while conversely  listening and being open to new ideas.  
  • Must enjoy working and making independent or team-based decisions, either planned or spontaneously,  while being acutely aware of the impact of decisions on others.  
  • Must be able to follow plans and finish tasks using systematic approaches such as time management and  project management to accomplish goals.  
  • Will use a balanced approach to decision making - being action-oriented, quickly changing focus with  shifting business priorities - while being able to demonstrate patience with work demands and  changes.  
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills to manage performance problems using both candor and  sensitiveness when dealing with individuals or with tough business issues.

What you need to be successful:

Seven or more years of insurance operations management experience with significant experience in claims. Bachelor's degree preferred.

The compensation amount for this role is targeted at $175,000-$187,800. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including your experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
