Description of primary duties and responsibilities::Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Office of Career Services in the Division of University Advancement plays a pivotal role at Fayetteville State University in support of the University’s mission to prepare and launch students on successful, high-impact career trajectories. This includes identifying and nurturing high-impact paid internship and career opportunities for students, offering career preparation instruction and guidance, connecting students with paid internships during matriculation, and facilitating placement in wide-ranging professional career opportunities upon graduation. The work of the Office of Career Services is accomplished in collaboration with members of the Academic Affairs and Student Affairs leadership teams, faculty, employers, alumni, and community partners. As a result, the department is often the first contact with external corporations and must leverage that role to initiate corporate financial solicitations.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The primary responsibilities of the Assistant VC for Career Development and Employer Engagement are to provide visionary leadership that leverages all available resources to prepare students for Career success and to connect students with paid internships and jobs, and initiate and close corporate solicitations for major gifts. Working closely with the Vice Chancellor of University Advancement and Associate Vice Chancellor for Development, this role is also designed to strategically help identify and acquire financial corporate support for University Advancement.
Build Sustainable Relationships with Corporate Partners for Student Employment and Financial Support (60%)
- Identify and recruit employers.
- Building on historical base
- Nurture and grow base of employers in collaboration with:
- FSU Faculty
- Community partners, such as InternXL, NC Works, Thurgood Marshall College, Fund, UNCF, Congressional HBCU Caucus, etc.
- Alumni
- Strategically identify and build relationships with regional, state, national, and international corporations for recruitment of university students and alumni. Generate monetary support, sponsorships, and gifts-in-kind from corporate partners to support the goals and objectives of the university.
- Make 10 – 12 monthly visits to prospective corporate partners and manage a portfolio of at least 50 corporations.
- Acquire 10 new corporate prospects per year.
- Work closely with staff to develop internship and other engagement opportunities for students.
Provide Student Employment Training and Resources (20%)
- Prepare students for Career success, in collaboration with academic affairs leadership and faculty members.
- Leverage designated Career Success Leaders in each College.
- Incorporate career preparation skills in targeted courses.
- Offer career prep workshops and personalized guidance.
- Leverage interested alumni.
- Provide online resources.
- Career Services website.
- Online tools to assist students with career exploration, resume preparation, and interview skills.
Engage Marketing Strategy and Tracking System (20%)
- Proactively, effectively communicate opportunities to students.
- Targeted, personalized outreach.
- Using multiple channels of communication (faculty, EAB, texts, etc.).
- Including employer-specific information sessions and hiring events
- Compile and maintain key data metrics.
- Available paid internships and jobs for which FSU students are being sought.
- Students (and recent alums) hired for internships and jobs.
- Real-time Career Success video wall updates
- Student utilization of available career prep resources.
A bachelor’s degree in business administration, educational administration, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications::A master’s degree and experience in federal sector recruitment and hiring and/or significant experience in the private sector with some experience at the higher education level preferred.
