Assistant Teacher, Preschool & Elementary, Full or Part-Time Afternoons)

Summary
We are looking for an Afternoon Assistant Teacher to help our preschool and school age kids with their school work, and to help them practice great sportsmanship outside at recess and during after school playtime. While we strongly prefer a candidate with previous experience working with kids, we are willing to train a candidate who is eager to learn.
We are looking for part-time help in the afternoons but will also consider candidates who want full-time hours also (especially in the summer). If interested, please email us with a resume or, if you don't have a resume, you can contact us to set up an initial phone call.

Compensation:

• $14/hour starting pay, negotiable for experienced staff

Duties
Job Responsibilities:
Assist in the supervision of the students to ensure student safety
Help students with their daily needs, whether it's school work, being the referee in a game of kickball, friendship troubles, or even the occasional potty accident
Assist the lead teachers with preparation of learning materials and the learning environment
Encourage and help students to grow in their independence, kindness, and maturity
Help our team (we all pitch in) with the less glamorous work that keeps us going: cleaning, organizing, etc.
Share your talents and creative ideas with our team and students
Learn to teach in a Montessori environment, and start to practice when you're ready
Requirements
Job Requirements:

• High school graduate or equivalent (required)
• At least 18 years of age (required)
• At least 6 months of previous childcare or teaching experience (strongly preferred, but we will consider all candidates)
• Previous sports coaching experience is a big plus

• Sports coaching, recreation, tutoring, or mentoring
• Music, dance, visual arts, or foreign language skills

About Us

Montessori Children's House is a small private school in Virginia Beach, VA. We offer an exceptional education to Preschool, Kindergarten, and Elementary students from a wide variety of backgrounds. Our work is important, challenging, and sometimes hilarious. Working with kids can require a lot of energy, and definitely requires a lot of patience, but the rewards are many.

We aren't a typical school: our students spend a lot of time doing hands-on activities, conducting science experiments, building contraptions, learning music and new languages, exploring nature, having dance parties, and just having fun!
