Assistant Project Manager Job Description:
The Assistant Project Manager works under the guidance of a mentor PM with tasks including, but not limited to, customer billing, modeling, coordination, point loads, custom engineering, and attending meetings as necessary in place of their mentors, etc.
Essential Functions:
- Project Management (Basic) – will have a select number of smaller projects that they are directly in charge of; all work and correspondence is supervised and reviewed by the mentor they work under
- Billing (Basic) –understand our billing tracking software (Nexus) and how to input ALL hours whether it is for a project, administrative, or personal leave
- Communication – must be able to communicate in all forms of correspondence for tasks related to projects associated with; will create transmittals, send follow up emails after coordination meetings, etc.; all related communication needs to be electronically documented in project folders, and CC’d to the mentor PM
- Project File Management – must have a working knowledge of our file structure and able to keep all file folders current and organized; must understand where various files need to be put so all personnel have them readily and easily available
- Submittals – must be capable of building basic submittals when provided TDLF/SDF and project structural deck information; must be able to build submittals either in hard format (copies from the manual) or soft format (PDF documents)
- Legends – must have a working knowledge of bracing legends; must be able to build them for projects for all trades, configurations, and for the CBC, IBC, and UFC
- Detail Seismic Bracing Layouts – with minimal guidance from the Mentor PM, must be able to perform layouts per the requirements of the ISAT Seismic Bracing manual
- Perform Kit Takeoff Counts – must provide kit counts with nomenclature and kit IDs to Mentor PM or Technical Support Specialist to perform quote or order material
- 3D Modeling and Coordination (Basic to Competent) – must be able to Model efficiently all seismic systems in AutoCAD and coordinate in Naviswork
- Point Loads – must be able to follow a point load chart and understand the difference between vertical dead loads and seismic loads and how to calculate spacing to determine loads; will complete point layouts using these charts and create coordinated sets for submittal to SEOR
- Program Proficiency (Basic) – must learn the basics of AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks (Test)
- Code Knowledge (Basic) – must acquire a basic knowledge of all codes pertinent to custom engineering, particularly the ASCE-7, IBC, UFC, and CBC and how they govern seismic engineering
- Prepare Quotes – must be able to prepare suspended distributed utilities and basic Custom Engineering quotations for use by PM or Supervisor
- Organization – must be able to keep a clean and organized work environment
- Performs Other Duties as Assigned – The employee might be asked to perform duties not listed in this job description, but which are also considered to be essential to the employment position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the maintenance and safekeeping of the devices, computers, and equipment in the department.
- Responsible for recruitment and training of subordinates.
- Responsible for communicating and training operational and working instructions.
- Responsible for reporting any suspicious activity.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises Project Engineers as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with 5+ years of work experience in Non-Structural Components Seismic Design.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Ability to effectively communicate (orally, and in writing) with all levels of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to calculate material labor and overhead variances, commissions, percentages, inventory ratios, and more complex financial ratios or calculations, and to program such calculations using software tools.
