Assistant Project Manager
What We Do:
SMK Services, Inc. (SMK) is a Construction Management and Engineering services consultancy based in Belmont, Massachusetts. Our client base spans from Public Agencies, Professional Engineering firms, General Contractors, to Subcontractors. We currently provide services in Project Management, Scheduling, Engineering Support, Construction Estimating, Claims Analysis and Inspectional Services. With a growing customer base and an expanding list of services provided, SMK is currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our team in the Greater Boston Area.
The Role:
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) will be responsible for providing technical support to the Project Managers, Estimator, Scheduler and the wider SMK project team. This includes, but is not limited to, estimating quantities, developing construction sequencing plans, Subject Matter Expert (SME) and vendor management, report and presentation development, project site visits and inspections, submittal writing and management, Request for Information (RFI) writing and management, support in the development and analysis of cost proposals, and budget analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities:
In this role you will be responsible for carrying out a variety of tasks. Some core responsibilities will include:
- Assist in monitoring project progress, which includes key issue identification and management, reviewing and analyzing schedule progress, identification and recording of project delay events, etc.
- Assist in deliverable development, presentation development, conducting research, etc.
- Assist in tracking and managing project information, such as submittals, requests for information, change order requests, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
- Assist in performing project site visits to document project progress and contractor compliance with contract documents.
- Analyze and verify that submittals comply with contract documents.
- Maintain project files, which includes key correspondence, deliverable file management, project contract document management, etc.
- Provide Scheduler with progress for the SMK internal projects schedule.
- Assist Scheduler with developing narrative reports, graphics and updating schedules.
- Assist Estimator with quantity take-offs and coordinating with SMEs and vendors for pricing and production rates.
- Assist with any other tasks given by SMK Project Manager(s).
Key Attributes:
- A basic knowledge and ability to quickly understand principles of construction and contractor means and methods.
- Good communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Ability to develop written reports, charts, and graphs to support and present analyses.
- Ability to schedule, manage, prioritize responsibilities, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to think critically and problem solve in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Entry level position with relevant internship or some level of professional experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Ability to pass background checks as required.
Additional Employment Information:
- Full time salaried position.
- Starting salary of $70k/yr to $90k/yr dependent on experience.

- SMK follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely and from the office on set days. The ability to work remotely is based on several factors, including workload demands for tasks that require a high degree of collaboration, in person client meetings, employee training, and employee experience level.
- Work location is primarily office-based, with the opportunity to attend occasional site visits within New England.
