Reports to:Program Director

Employment Status: Full-time

Shift schedule: 12:00pm-8:00pm

FSLA Status: Exempt

Pay rate: $60,000 - $65,000

POSITION SUMMARY

The Interfaith Works Drop-In Center and Shelter's at Progress Place (IWDC, IWSPP), located on the second and third floors of Progress Place (a County-owned service center for people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity) acts as an entry point to services and shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness in Montgomery County and the surrounding areas. The Drop-In Center offers basic needs (toiletries, showers, laundry) and case management services.

The Overflow Shelter is an emergency shelter located on the second floor of Progress Place for both women and men that has the capacity to expand during extreme weather. This shelter is open from November 1st through March 31st for Hypothermia and will expand when temperatures drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Hyperthermia overflow occurs during the summer months when temperatures exceed 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The Assistant Program Director assists with overseeing evening operations for the drop-in center and overflow shelter while also providing direct supervision to the team of Diversion Specialists. The Assistant Program Director also acts as the liaison to the Program Director.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working on-site at IW's programs at Progress Place, specifically supporting the IW Shelter and Drop-In Center team during hypothermia season. Some day shifts will be required.
  • Working with the IWDC-IWSPP Program Director and Program Support Manager on human resource related tasks, including recruiting and helping to provide training to new staff, personnel matters, including taking corrective action.
  • Responding to questions and assisting team in problem solving of emergent programmatic issues.
  • Helping to cover for the Program Director while on leave.
  • Assisting the IWDC-IWSPP Program Director on administrative tasks, including HMIS data entry as needed.
  • Provide a supportive work environment focused on training, coaching, and development; encourage a strength-based, client-centered approach to providing services; and focus on providing best practices, including Trauma Informed Care, Housing First, Harm Reduction and Motivational Interviewing.
  • Supervise the Diversion Specialist, meeting with them individually on a weekly basis and providing consultation on complex cases, intake procedures, assessments, referrals and outreach when needed.
  • Assist Program Director in facilitating an agenda for the weekly staff meeting, weekly clinical rounds, biweekly IW Shelter Director meeting, monthly joint staff meeting (including all programs located at Progress Place), Progress Place Neighbors meeting (including members of Progress Place, the fire station and the MPI train station) and Emergency Services and Outreach Providers meeting (including all emergency shelter programs and outreach/day centers).
  • Interview and select candidates for Diversion Specialist positions.
  • Provide performance feedback as needed and complete annual written performance evaluations to supervisees.
  • Utilize the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)
  • Participate in the biweekly Coordinated Entry System meetings regarding housing referrals and resources, and also join the County's Emergency Services & Outreach Provider meeting on a monthly basis.
  • Attend Intensive Team Meetings and other interdisciplinary meetings as needed.
  • Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned by the Program Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES)

  • A Bachelors in Social Work, Counseling, or similar behavioral health field.
  • Minimum two years' post-graduate experience with vulnerable populations; three years preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with acute and chronic behavioral health issues and knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Knowledge and ability to effectively apply best practices in engaging those experiencing homelessness, including Trauma-Informed Care, Housing First, Harm Reduction and Motivational Interviewing.
  • Flexibility and openness to working in a fast-paced program serving clients from diverse racial, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Availability to work at least one evening per week.
  • Availability to answer calls after hours.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member with compassion, respect and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of issues related to homelessness and community resources.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
