Department of Neurological Surgery Mission: Provide the highest quality specialized neurosurgical care, advance nervous system discovery and the science of practice, and train outstanding and compassionate leaders in a diverse and inclusive environment promoting wellness. Department Summary: As the state's only health and research university, OHSU brings together education, research, patient care and community service. While each component has its own individual goals and mission, all of them are bound together by a common vision - to improve the well-being of Oregonians. Neurological surgeons at OHSU and Doernbecher Children¿s Hospital deliver comprehensive surgical care for patients with brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerve diseases. Our specialists combine a sincere interest in the welfare of their patients with innovative surgical skills and technology. Innovation at OHSU has included the first deep brain stimulation surgery in North America, the first neuronal stem cell transplants in the world, and the first and most powerful intra-operative MRI facility in a children¿s hospital in the western United States. We also house a nationally leading neurosurgery training program and advanced fellowships in skull base and vascular, functional, and pediatric neurosurgery. Scientists in our department contribute to fundamental understanding of pain perception and of the brain's blood supply.

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the OHSU's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. This position reports to the Chair of Neurological Surgery (Nathan Selden, M.D., Ph.D.)


This position will primarily serve in a clinical role taking care of spine and general neurological surgery patients at Hillsboro Medical Center (HMC)-Tuality Healthcare, an Oregon Health & Science University Health System partner.

 

Clinical - serve in a clinical role taking care of spine and general neurological surgery at HMC/Tuality Healthcare or other locations otherwise assigned by the department chair. It is expected that this position take a fair share of call, as assigned, with other faculty on nights, weekends and holidays.

 

Education – OHSU, OHSU Healthcare, and OHSU Hillsboro Medical Center-Tuality are teaching facilities and this position is expected to teach medical students and residents in clinical settings as well as through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year.

 

Research - The department encourages faculty members to engage in research activity. This is to be coordinated through the Vice Chair of Research.

 

Administration - administrative and other duties may be assigned based on the department needs and the individual's area of expertise and interest. There will be opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.


Must have graduated from an accredited medical school, completed a residency in Neurosurgery and be board certified or board eligible in Neurosurgery. Must also have an unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Oregon.

 

The OHSU clinical employment agreement will cover the position’s responsibilities in the areas of confidentiality, non-compete, Code of Conduct, conflict of interest, and compliance. Faculty are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner, and adhere to all institutional guidelines as well as state and federal compliance requirements.
