Job description

The Division of Genetics at the Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC), Oregon Health & Science University, is seeking to recruit investigators with expertise in non-human primate (NHP) genetics, genome biology and/or genome-guided medicine. Research areas of interest include but are not limited to: the analysis of NHP genetic and genomic data to improve understanding of human disease; population genetics and evolutionary analysis of NHPs, methods for genome or epigenome manipulation; using personal genomes to create patient-specific hypotheses about disease and subsequent genome-based therapy. The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, outreach and public service. The incumbent will complement ongoing research activities and expertise in the Division through programs that aim to develop genetic resources and tools that can be broadly shared with the global research community and strengthen bridges between NHP models and the human research world. The Division has a strong commitment to diversity & equity, an inclusive culture,  and is dedicated to developing the careers of young faculty. The ONPRC is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases.

The appointee will be expected to plan, develop, organize, and direct a fully funded and independent research program that incorporates the use of non-human primate models. Incumbents are expected to independently and effectively direct a research laboratory, seek opportunities for internal and external collaborative research studies, supervise research staff and trainees, publish regularly in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and present/participate in national or international meetings. Teaching obligations include lecturing as well as mentoring/supervising graduate and/or postgraduate trainees. Service obligations include participating on academic and service committees at the center, university, and national/international level.

Applicants should work actively in the broad area of NHP-related research, or have research programs that can be adapted to include NHPs within the next 3 years. The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of research, education/mentoring, outreach, and public service.
