Purpose:
Purpose:
The Department of Applied Mathematics at Santa Clara University invites applications for a tenure-track position at a rank to be determined by the qualifications of the successful candidate. The department is particularly interested in candidates with a background in probability and advanced statistics, who should be able to teach any courses related to those areas that are required for statistical learning (supervised and unsupervised), machine learning, deep learning, and data analytics. The School of Engineering is creating an M.S. program in AI to be housed in the department, and the successful candidate will play an important role in the teaching and supervision of the fundamental courses required.

The Department of Applied Mathematics only offers M.S. degrees, with 4 full-time faculty, and a strong pool of approximately 10 part-time adjunct faculty. The School of Engineering maintains strong ties to local industry. Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will express enthusiasm for teaching lower and upper division undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of specialization, fulfilling all responsibilities related to those courses, and for engaging students from diverse backgrounds in learning. The candidate will demonstrate a passion for developing an active research program appropriate to Santa Clara University's mission that leads to high-quality research publications, research funding applications, and engaging students as participants. Successful candidates will be expected to develop their own scholarly research, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Basic Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a doctorate in statistics, mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or in a closely related field; have demonstrated a strong publication record in top venues; and have a strong commitment and ability to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Responsibilities:
Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of specialization and courses of a fundamental/core nature, and fulfilling all responsibilities related to those courses. The standard academic year course load for tenured and tenure-track positions is seven quarter-level course equivalents, generally with a one-course equivalent reduction for scholarly or creative work. The first-year tenure-track Assistant Professor is granted an additional one course release. Course equivalents include lectures and supervision of labs, theses, dissertations, and projects, distributed across three quarters of 10 weeks each. Each quarter is 10 weeks excluding the final exams week. Developing a research program that leads to high-quality publications, and engages students as participants in that research. Appropriate service to the department, school, university, and profession.
