Job Summary

Primary purpose of this position is to teach courses in the BS Exercise Science program. This position is tenure-track with a 4/4 teaching load per semester. Scholarship and Service are also components of a tenure-track line. The School of Health & Human Performance (which is in the College of Health Sciences) is committed to hiring faculty who have a passion for teaching and learning and a desire for high levels of academic and professional student engagement both within and outside of the classroom.

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing -

    Teach undergraduate and potentially graduate students in the some of the following courses: kinesiology, exercise physiology, applied research in exercise physiology, clinical exercise physiology, biochemistry, or others as appropriate for area of expertise.This tenure-track position is required to teach a 4/4 load - which is considered a full teaching load.

Faculty ¿ Scholarship/Professional Development -

    Tenure-track faculty are expected to conduct research/scholarship and contribute to the Exercise Science/Kinesiology body of knowledge through personal and collaborative means.Examples include, but are not limited to:
      Publications (editing, citations)Presentations at professional meetingsPublication; peer reviewed scholarshipCurrent work in circulation or in progressGrants received or applied forMembership and participation in professional organizationsOther professional service of development activities
    Ability to develop and demonstrate knowledge of current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline

Faculty - Service to Institution -

    All faculty are expected to maintain involvement in University, College, and Departmental/School service and active engagement in professional service at the national/international/regional/state or community levels.

Faculty - Public Service -

    Public Service is often a part of faculty service expectations and might include activities such as the following:Consulting work Provide continuing education service, instruction, or program development for department, school, college, or universityMembership and participation in community organizationsOther significant services to the communityAbility to work collegially with others in service to the broader University community.
Responsibilities

The appointment will be for a 10-month Academic Year with summer teaching optional.

Courses may include, but not be limited to exercise physiology, applied research in Exercise Science, clinical exercise physiology, biochemistry, human physiology, etc.In addition, candidates will support the department, college and university goals to benefit the educational mission of the University.
Candidates are expected to:
1. understand the principles associated with teaching and learning.

2. have strong communication skills.

3. have started developing a research agenda.

4. have demonstrable ability to work collegiality and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

5. be willing to learn how to become a better teacher.

Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. (terminal degree) in the discipline (Exercise Science, exercise physiology, sport physiology, kinesiology, sport sciences, etc.) at the time of the appointment is expected.


Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials)

Preferred Qualifications

Hiring preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an understanding of Georgia College's liberal arts mission and who are enthusiastic about working closely with high-achieving students within an academic community dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through learning and scholarship.

Evidence of innovation and creative teaching strategies is highly desirable.

Preferred Experience
Clinical experience in the field of kinesiology, sports science, cardiac rehab and/or physical therapy.
