Job description

Position Summary: The Medical Assistant works under the Clinical Coordinator to assist in efficient flow and quality of care during clinic hours. The Medical Assistant works as part of the healthcare team including physicians, NP/PAs, patient service representatives, and medical records, and lead Medical Assistants to provide comprehensive care.

Essential Functions Summary: The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the healthcare provider with patient care including vital signs, obtaining medical history and chief complaint, and assisting with office procedures.

· Empathetic with patient’s needs and concerns

· Ability to work well with healthcare providers, anticipating their needs regarding patient treatment

· Ability to type 40 words a minute

· Physical demands- must be able to stand for extended periods of time

· Traveling to different clinic locations

· Maintain professional behavior towards patients and staff

· Patient-focused

· Ensuring all exam rooms are fully stocked and cleaned prior to starting clinic

· Maintain an adequate level of liquid nitrogen in cryo canisters during clinic

· Performing PDT (photodynamic therapy) and UVB/light treatments

· Applying and removing patch tests to patients and entering results into the database

· Mixing neurotoxins appropriately and dating with initials

· Phlebotomy

· Suture removals and dressing changes

· Surgical tray and sterile field set up

· Explain procedures to patients and obtain informed consent and provide post-op wound care

· Completion of lab and pathology requisitions and contacting pick-up services if needed.

· Patient education on results and plan of care

· Taking photos of patients for documentation of progress/results in the medical record

· Managing initial prescriptions, refills, and prior authorizations including biologics.

· Administer and/or apply medications as appropriate (biologics, numbing creams, topical antibiotics, etc.)

· Managing referrals and direct communication with proper records and documents to other doctors/specialists especially MOHS.

· Communicating CPT and diagnosis codes to the referral department in a timely manner along with the name of the provider performing the procedure and the scheduled date

· Maintain clean rooms between patients, restocking exam rooms and wiping down all tables/countertops in each room at the end of each day, and taking out the trash when needed.

· Wiping down workstations/work areas you are occupying at the end of each day

· Ensuring all equipment has been turned on at the beginning of the day and off at the end of the day and ensuring that equipment is sanitized such as UVB machines and goggles that are used by patients at the end of the day.

· Scribing for providers and assisting with procedures

· Making follow up appointments –remember global periods for procedures requires 2 weeks between appointments

· Aesthetic referrals to DSA Aesthetic department

· Completing administrative tasks such as To-dos, faxes, replying to messages, and voicemails.

· Escorting patients to check out at the end of their visit

· Other duties as assigned

Reporting Relationship: The Medical Assistant reports to the Clinical Coordinator.

Qualifications:

· Must possess a high school diploma or GED

· Derm a plus

· Must have completed an accredited medical assisting program and/or dermatology technician program

· Current CPR certification

Physical requirements:

Must possess strong English oral and written communications skills to communicate effectively with other staff and management. Eyesight must be sufficient to be able to read medical charts and computer monitors. Must possess manual dexterity sufficient to utilize reference materials, manipulate pages in reports, and type on keyboards.

Environmental Conditions:

Conditions are typical of a medical office environment. Must be able to handle stressful situations, especially during the initial phases of training, stress levels may exceed normal levels as new skills are learned and added information is assimilated. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, although, on a busy patient day, it can become congested and loud. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $23.00 per hour
