Job Summary
Nursing Faculty
JOB SUMMARY
Professional nurse who has responsibility for the coordination of learning activities and assisting students in the teaching/learning/evaluating process. Assists in the counseling and guidance of students, conducting theory classes and/or clinical laboratory sessions as assigned. The faculty member is responsible to the Course Coordinator.
MAJOR DUTIES
Administrative
- Councils students in accordance with the students needs.
- Recognizes and informs Course Coordinator of existing or potential problems.
- Serves on School of Nursing and College committees and participates in committee activities as designated.
- Participates in programs of self-development (workshops, seminars, clinical practice, research symposia, conferences, classes, etc.).
Instructional
- Assists students in applying nursing theories and principles to the practice of Nursing.
- Conducts theory classes and/or supervises clinical experiences as assigned.
- Assists in the preparation of tests and evaluation materials as assigned.
- Uses multiple and varied teaching methods.
- Keeps students and the Course Coordinator apprised of students¿ progress.
- Assists in the preparation and implementation of the course and/or clinical schedules.
- Evaluates effectiveness of instruction on the basis of learner and peer evaluations.
- Uses knowledge gained from evaluations in planning future learning experiences.
- Serves as a role model for students in the professional, social, and civic arena.
Community Relations:
- Belongs to professional organizations.
- Belongs to civic organizations which promote quality health care for all people.
- Serves as a nursing resource person for local health agencies when requested.
- Participates in the overall academic affairs and programs of the total institution as indicated.
- Actively attempts to influence political decisions that affect nursing on the local level.
Research, Investigation and Creative Teaching:
- Assists in the designing, conducting, evaluating, and publishing research and/or studies relating to health care and/or the nursing profession.
- Shares and utilizes investigational findings for the improvement of the teaching/learning process.
- Contributes to professional writings and makes scholarly presentations.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
- Reports directly to the Dean, School of Nursing & Health Sciences
GUIDELINES
- Follows all Board of Regents and the University Systems policies and procedures, as well as ABACs well-defined College practices and policies
- Abides by all Georgia Board of Nursing policies and procedures
- Adheres to all policies and procedures required to maintain accreditation through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing

- Consists of management duties
- Requires strong leadership and supervisory skills
CONTACTS
- Daily with school dean, faculty and staff co-workers and nursing students
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping
- May occasionally need to lift or move light objects
- Work is usually performed in an office, classroom, or laboratory/clinical setting
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
- Assists the school dean with tasks as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Masters Degree in Nursing with Academic Credential or Experiential Preparation in area of teaching focus
License
- Current unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Georgia
