175-DAY CONTRACT/FULL-TIME

This is a full-time, temporary 175-day faculty position. The teaching assignment could include a mixture of day, evening, and weekend classes at the Weed or Yreka Campus, or other off-campus sites.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Duties related to Assistant Football Coach: In collaboration with the Head Football coach the Assistant Football Coach will plan, organize, direct and monitor all activities of the intercollegiate Football program including the recruitment, conditioning, training, practices, eligibility and behavior/conduct of student athletes in the program; ensure compliance with all regulations, rules, procedures and policies for the program as established by the CCCAA, NCFC, and COS; promote COS athletics in the community; maintain a close working relationship with high school coaches; assist student athletes in academic and athletic preparation for transfer to four-year colleges; advise, evaluate, and mentor student athletes. Serve as Coordinator of Offense or Defense and coach a position. Assists athletic department as assigned. Assists Head Football Coach with game travel. Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or the Athletic Director.
  • Instructor duties: Provide instruction that may include lecture, laboratory, and activity classes in the discipline in accordance with established College of the Siskiyous approved curriculum and course outlines; inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance and participation requirements in a course syllabus; effectively teach and communicate with students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Interaction with students outside of class: Advise students on academic and career matters; assist in outreach and articulation with high schools, four-year colleges and universities; post and maintain adequate and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.
  • Out-of-class duties: Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submit them according to published guidelines, prepare and grade class assignments and evaluations according to course syllabus.
  • Professional and curriculum development: Remain current in field, develop, maintain and evaluate curriculum including development and assessment of student learning outcome; select textbooks; evaluate course materials; interact with faculty and staff in other areas of instruction and participate in the development of instructional methods, technology, and materials; work with peers in higher education, and where appropriate, business and industry to maintain currency of instructional programs.
  • Interaction with colleagues: Participate in college governance by serving on college committees; participate in professional development, including flex obligation; assist with student and other educational activities in accordance with college policies; establish and maintain effective work relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in kinesiology, Physical Education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in Physical Education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive Physical Education OR the equivalent.

  • Three years of recent football collegiate coaching experience or three years of head high school coaching experience
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to teach courses at the community college level.
  • Understanding of the CCCAA constitution and Bylaws.
  • Success in recruiting student athletes.
  • Commitment to community college education as demonstrated in personal and/or professional experience.
  • Excellence in teaching (enthusiasm, knowledge of subject matter, student motivational skills, diverse teaching methods to address a variety of learning styles).
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues, students, and with both on-campus groups, and off-campus community groups and educational and educational partners.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in their discipline and intercollegiate football theory and practice.
  • Strong academic preparation as evidenced by undergraduate and graduate level coursework.
  • Interest in and/or ability to use relevant and modern technology, including on-line instruction.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with students and staff, both orally and in writing.

Other Details

Salary and Benefits:


  • The annual salary range for a 175-day contract is $61,710 to $112,929.
  • Starting placement on the District salary schedule is based upon years of experience and number of units completed beyond the Master’s degree: $61,710 to $83,218. New academic employees may receive credit for no more than five years of job-related experience.
  • Faculty members with an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution receive an additional $2,000 annual stipend.
  • The District offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage to employees and qualified dependents.
  • The employee participates in CalSTRS through District and employee contributions.

The College and Community:
College of the Siskiyous, founded in 1957, is in Weed and Yreka in Siskiyou County with an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students.
The main campus is located in the historic lumber town of Weed, California, at the base of 14,162 foot snow-capped Mt. Shasta. A campus center is located in the City of Yreka. The main campus, accessible from Interstate 5 and Highway 97, is 60 miles south of the Oregon border. Both locations feature state-of-the-art facilities, an exceptional setting for learning, and quality instruction in a caring atmosphere. The communities of Siskiyou County feature festivals, carnivals, concerts, art galleries and live theater.
Accreditation:
College of the Siskiyous has excellent faculty and staff, as well as a diverse and engaged student population. The College has a positive image in both community and region and is fully accredited through the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Commission of Recognition of Post-Secondary Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education.
Selection Process:
After the preliminary screening, selected candidates will be invited to the campus for an initial interview with the Search Committee. Videoconference interviews (in lieu of an in-person initial interview) will be offered. Candidates to be interviewed will be selected from applicants who most closely meet the minimum and desired qualifications. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview. The Search Committee will recommend finalists to the Superintendent/President for a final interview.
The District reserves the right to re-advertise the position or to delay indefinitely filling of the position if it is deemed that applicants for the position do not constitute an adequate applicant pool or if funding is not available.
