Position Focus:
Overview of Responsibilities: The Assistant Director will work with the Senior Associate Dean for Student Engagement and members of the Student Engagement team on intercultural engagement. This will involve the oversight of the FGLI Community Initiative, partnerships and programming with the staff of the university campus centers (including the Native American Cultural Center, Asian American Cultural center, La Casa Cultural, the Afro American Cultural Center, the LGBTRC and the Chaplain’s Office). The Assistant Director will assist in the planning and execution of Student Life and university programs, such Family Weekend, Yale-Harvard weekend, MLK programming, cultural heritage month program, Yale SafetyNet, and the Office for Educational Opportunity.
Essential Duties: Coordinate the FGLI Community initiative – program and community hub for students who are identified as limited income or first in their family to attend college. Supervise the FGLI Student Ambassadors – (7) undergraduate students. Yale Safety-Net emergency funding approver and administrative team. Participates in planning university programs and special events e.g. Family Weekend, Yale-Harvard weekend, Orientation/Camp Yale programs. Develop and maintain internal and external communications materials – newsletters, websites, social media. Provides project support to divisional/department leaders and actively develops appropriate external contacts and networks. Partner with university programs that support FGLI students and students of varying identities such as: FSY, STARS, ONEXYS, Poorvu Center’s Academic Strategies and the Office for Educational Opportunity. Advise and support student organizations related to the FGLI student identity. Provides support to emerging communities within the student body. Writes and works with both confidential and non-confidential material. May perform other duties as assigned.
