Assistant Director of Landscape and Greenspace

The Department of Public Works of the City of College Park seeks an Assistant Director of Landscape and Greenspace to join our team.

The Assistant Director will perform various responsible professional and technical duties that support the effectiveness and efficiency of the Department. Some duties included within the Landscape and Greenspace division are:

• Developing and planning for City-wide Landscape and park enhancements and City tree and garden maintenance activities.
• Provide direction and oversight of the maintenance of City-owned playgrounds, parks, and the compost yard.
• Prepares bids, reviews contracts, and manages projects for parks and recreation facilities.
• Responsible for developing, administering, and adhering to the department's budget.
• Provides direction, training, reviews, and evaluates the work of subordinate staff regularly.

The qualified candidate will possess:

• Bachelor's degree in horticulture, landscaping, or related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in municipal government.
• Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management and budget experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Requires six (6) years in overseeing commercial landscape maintenance tasks.
• Valid driver's license in state of residence.

Additionally, the person must have or be able to obtain within six months of hire:

• Maryland Roadside Tree Care Expert license
• Maryland Pesticide applicators license in Turf, Ornamentals, and Right-of-way
• Maryland Fertilizer Applicator License

Maryland Compost Facility Operator Tier I within one year of taking the position.

The City of College Park, MD, offers an excellent benefits package that includes Maryland State Retirement, health insurance, and more. The starting salary range for this position is from $89,552 - $96,269, depending on qualifications.
