Responsibilities and Duties
Career CoachingAdvance Business & Economics Career Community students' career development and career goal obtainment by providing effective career coaching and access to relevant information, resources, programs, and connections. Meet with students (1:1, groups, etc.) to provide advising and coaching related to major/career decision-making, self-marketing (resumes, interviewing, networking, LinkedIn, etc.), job/internship search, career readiness competencies, and graduate school preparation. Identify, develop, and market Career Community-specific career-related resources. In collaboration with external relations team, connect students to employers, alumni and mentors. Leverage mentors, employers, and alumni to scale service provision. Make referrals to central Career Center staff and college faculty and staff (i.e., Academic Advisor) as necessary. Ensure record keeping on student interactions and assess satisfaction with and effectiveness of interactions.Programming/EventsDevelop and deliver career-related programming on career decision-making, self-marketing, job and internship search, networking, and graduate/professional school. Programs could include workshops, meet-ups, conferences, seminars, presentations, boutique fairs, panels, site visits/road trips, job shadowing, networking events, etc. Collaborate with the external relations team partners in program development and implementation. Coordinate with other relevant College of Business & Economics and Career Center staff regarding marketing, logistics, budget, and assessment. Assist with Career Center's signature programs (i.e., job fairs) and ensure college's interests and needs are reflected in university-wide career programming. Partner with Career Center staff on programs when relevant. Participate in Student Affairs divisional programming.Workshops/Career EducationFacilitate and deliver career-related workshops/presentations as needed or at the request of faculty, student groups, and other Business & Economics Career Community-affiliated entities. Assist with the facilitation and delivery of workshop requests beyond the college (i.e. Admissions, Orientation, general Career Center requests, etc.). Prepare and customize content as needed. Market availability of workshop development and facilitation to Business & Economics Career Community stakeholders. External RelationsIn coordination with the external relations team, strategically identify employer and mentor prospects that align with the career options and interests of the Career Community. Develop and communicate (via visits, phone calls, email, social media, etc.) the value proposition of mentoring and recruiting students for jobs and internships. Foster external constituents' introduction to and relevant engagement with Career Community faculty and students. Develop a pool of employers, alumni, parents and others to serve as career mentors.Liaison/Campus RelationsServe, as needed, in liaison role(s) to select designated units. Support faculty, staff, and students with incorporation and distribution of career content. Develop and implement appropriate workshops and programming. Develop relationships that promote an active communication channel between the Career Center and liaison unit(s). Develop and cultivate meaningful and strategic connections with the college's faculty, staff, students, and student organizations. Foster an ecosystem of career support in the college. Support the broad range of career-related needs of the Career Community stakeholders (students, faculty, and staff). Develop an understanding of each department's key faculty/staff and its career-related concerns and needs. Ensure regular and relevant communication with Career Community related faculty and staff. Work with faculty/staff to market career programs, services, and resources to increase student satisfaction and utilization of career services. Consult and partner with faculty and staff in the development of the college-based career community and college- and department-specific career programs. Build and maintain college-based relationships to build awareness and increase utilization. Represent the Career Center on divisional and university committees.Administrative/OperationsFollow Career Center procedures and protocols and utilize Career Center systems (i.e., Handshake). Collect and report regularly on utilization and effectiveness. Contribute to office data collection and assessment by accurately recording engagement, programs, services and all other relevant touchpoints with internal and external contacts. Coordinate with the Career Center's marketing team to develop and implement a strategy to raise awareness of the college-based career community and its services and programs with the college's students, faculty and staff. Other duties as assigned that aid in the obtainment of the Career Center's goals and mission.Professional Development and Team ContributionsTrain central Career Center staff on business and economics-related career content and keep staff up-to-date on the College of Business & Economics career community's programs and resources. Proactively stay current on related professional topics, best practices, and trends to include TU and Career Center offerings, professional associations, independent reading, conference and other professional development programming. Actively participate in staff and team meetings. Provide support as needed to Center's programs and initiatives; other duties as assigned that aid in the obtainment of the Career Center's mission.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
    Master's degree or equivalent with a focus on coaching, counseling or higher education or an advanced degree in a business-related field.One year of related experience.Knowledge of trends in career development, business-related industries and career pathing, and the local and national job market/economy.Passion for student success and career coaching in a higher education environment.Expertise in self-branding techniques and job/internship search strategies.Experience with event/program development and management.Ability to work independently and to cultivate productive and effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.Experience and comfort with technology.Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.Knowledge of issues related to employment barriers, issues of workplace accommodations, and the needs of a diverse student population.Experience with the application of equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Preferred:
    Coaching or counseling certification
