Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Assistant Director for Finance and Administration (ADFA) is a member of the leadership team in the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SLLC). The position is responsible for ensuring the efficient and timely delivery of financial and administrative services to the School and its 140+ faculty, staff, and graduate students. In consultation with the Director, the ADFA prepares and administers the School's budget, and oversees all financial and administrative procedures. The ADFA provides comprehensive financial analyses and participates in decision making to ensure operational excellence for the entire School, advises the Director and leadership colleagues on internal affairs that relate to the School's finances, advises various stakeholders on the finances of planned academic endeavors, external funding, revenue generating and grant-seeking initiatives, and provides oversight of grant management. The ADFA supervises and trains the administrative staff team that carries out the mission of the unit.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
- 7 years of experience in finance/budget administration in a higher education setting.
- 3 years of supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of accounting and financial planning principles and practices as well as the technology necessary to implement them.
- Strategic and analytical thinking with the ability and willingness to explore and implement creative solutions.
- Ability to gather, analyze, and present relevant financial information for decision-making.
- Leadership and team-building experience in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal, intercultural communication (oral and written), project-management, and time-management skills.
- Ability to translate and present complicated financial analyses and information to specialized and non-specialized audiences.
- Proficient in standard office applications (e.g., email, Google Suite, Microsoft Word & Excel, Adobe Acrobat).
Preferences:

- Professional experience in US academic setting, with state institutions, especially UMD, a plus.
- Master's degree in business administration, finance, or other. business-related field.
- Experience with sponsored research and grants.
- Experience with human resources.
- Experience at UMD.
- Familiarity with UMD systems (such as KFS, PHR, BPM, BA4).

Salary: $100k -115k commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Candidates must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the USA. No visa sponsorship is offered for this position.
