Job Description:
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic Resources and Student Success (ADARSS) in the Division of Student Affairs, the Assistant Dean, Assistant Dean for Study Abroad will help students decide if, when, where, how, what, why, and for how long to Study Abroad and refer students to their academic advisors and Study Abroad academic advisors, as needed. The Assistant Dean plays an integral role in academic support services, which includes counseling and supporting students in achieving their academic goals. The Assistant Dean will plan, develop, implement, recruit, maintain, and assess HMC Study Abroad programs. The Assistant Dean collaborates with multiple areas on campus, including the academic deans, faculty, financial aid, registrar, student accounts, student accessibility services, and other campus services. The Assistant Dean must have excellent communication, planning and organizational skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the Study Abroad strategic plan.
  • Establish policies and practices for program recordkeeping, such as: tracking applications, participant files, admissions, registration, credit transfer process, statistics, and monitoring records and resources.
  • Counsel students before, during, and after the study-abroad experience.
  • Counsel students seeking academic support under the direction of the ADARSS.
  • Initiate regular and meaningful contact with faculty and Study Abroad academic advisors.
  • Collaborate closely with the Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Career Services, Admissions, First-Year Orientation, and other campus services.
  • Develop, implement, recruit, and maintain Study Abroad opportunities and programs.
  • Visit sites to assess and familiarize, following best practices and processes established.
  • Promote and strengthen Study Abroad programs utilizing foreign travel opportunities.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate Study Abroad information sessions, Welcome Back Dinners, and promotional events.
  • Maintain communication with students throughout the Study Abroad experience.
  • Develop and maintain Study Abroad promotional and informational materials, including materials for pre-departure and re-entry orientations.
  • In partnership with the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, develop, implement, and maintain the Study Abroad assessment plan and support assessment for Academic Resources and Student Success.
  • Provide oversight and management of budget development.
  • Member of the Study Abroad Committee.
  • Participate in campus and community international events.
  • Participates in professional development activities, including conferences, workshops, and webinars, and maintains knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Serve as point of contact with students abroad in emergency or crisis situations.
  • May serve as Title IX Deputy Coordinator, advisor, or support person.
  • Serves as a Responsible Employee for Title IX and Campus Security Authority (CSA) for the Clery Act.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, develop and maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of individuals and groups.
  • Requires proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and other software (MS Word, Excel).
  • Demonstrated technology ability, record keeping, and file management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret and communicate laws, college policies, rules, and regulations governing student matters.
  • Demonstrated fiscal and operational management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree, or any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for the position.
Experience: 2-3 years of experience in Study Abroad, academic advising, student affairs, or experience with programs, and/or similar responsibilities; knowledge of and interest in working in a college environment.
Licenses/Certifications: Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to the College's automobile insurance carrier. Passport required for international travel.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit, stand, use hands and fingers, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The individual must regularly lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Classification:
This is an exempt, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
Salary:
The anticipated starting salary range is $66,000.00 - $72,000.00/year. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Reporting:
This position reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Resources and Student Success in the Division of Student Affairs.
