We seek to create a more just world in all of our work.Progress - We commit out resources, expertise, and energy to delivering high quality support and services that make movement toward a more just world possible.Impact - We work collaboratively with others to build the capacity and sustainability of organizations who work toward social good.ResponsibilitiesAs TSNE's newest initiative, Shared Services provides a one-stop solution for nonprofits seeking a trusted, mission-aligned partner to help manage "back-office" organizational finances and operations, and "front-office" consulting in organizational development, strategy, and operations. As a new initiative, Shared Services will be developed and rolled out in phases, with an initial focus on "back-office" finance related services, including payroll and accounting services. Subsequent phases may include a range of services such as Human Resources, organizational development, fund development, evaluation, communication, and other areas as identified. Additionally, TSNE will explore the development of a cooperative ownership model whereby nonprofits can participate in a collectively owned collaborative for these services.The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Senior Director of Shared Services, helping to set up a new Shared Services program at TSNE. The new service line will provide accounting services to incorporated nonprofit organizations. During the setup process this position will help to write up the new accounting practices for the service line. The individual will also help to manage the general accounting operations of approximately 55 Fiscally Sponsored Organizations in collaboration with the accounting team. This position reviews, analyzes and audits accounting transactions, reports, and forecasts for validity, as well as troubleshooting. Essential FunctionsResearch & Education - 35% Assist in drafting the procedure and financial policy for Shared Services; Act as a resource to staff on technical accounting issues;Research and present accounting topics to staff;Help to create and maintain training materials.Compliance - 30% Review and approve adjusting entries proposed by staff, ensure proper documentation and the validity of entry;Complete account reconciliation on the general ledger;Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual review on various balance sheet and income statement accounts.General Accounting - 20%Coordinate with the Shared Services Director, Grants Manager, and Accountant to deliver high quality customer focused accounting services to clients;Take the lead on researching and preparing unusual Shared Services journal entries;Coordinate financial audits with the Controller;Help prepare documentation and back up for the annual audit.Reporting - 15%Work with Shared Services Grants Manager to ensure that automatic monthly reports are sent to shared service clients;Assist with state registration reporting;Assist with the creation and maintenance of financial reports.Complete other tasks and projects related to the job, as needed.QualificationsMany folks who are impacted by biased professionalism standards, such as women, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and individuals with disabilities, tend to only submit an application if they meet every requirement listed. Minimum six years of progressive accounting experience with an understanding of all types of accounting transactions;BA/BS degree in accounting or business, or equivalent experience required;Strong knowledge of all nonprofit functional accounting areas required;Experience writing policies and procedures a plus;Strong analytical skills;Ability to research and troubleshoot problems;Experience creating financial reports, Intacct experience desired;Federal Uniform Guidance knowledge desired;Demonstrated track record proactively researching and resolving accounting inconsistencies;Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office;Strong attention to detail;Strong written and verbal communication skills;Ability to function independently and work as part of a team;Commitment to the work of social and economic justice organizations;Ability to work effectively with people of different cultural backgrounds;Experience with training a plus. Location: Work will be performed between our office located at the NonProfit Center at 89 South Street, Suite 700, Boston, MA 02111 and your home office. This position is required to be on-site for in-person client engagements and some meetings with TSNE staff, funders, and program participants, which may take place outside of the TSNE office and may require you to be on-site more regularly with advanced notice.Schedule: This position is full-time at 37.5 hours per week and hours are flexible within reason.
