Assistant Construction Manager/Resident Engineer

We are seeking enthusiastic Assistant Construction Managers/ Resident Engineers to support our growing construction management practice in California. This position will be an integral part of GEI’s construction management teams as they execute CM projects, and support GEI’s design teams in the development of projects for construction. This position will be ideally suited for hard working and committed professionals aiming to develop their construction management and resident engineering skills and experience to eventually lead civil works projects through construction. Location flexible; office locations in Sacramento, Oakland, Bakersfield, Carlsbad and Pasadena.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

• Serve as Assistant Construction Manager or Assistant Resident Engineer on water resources construction projects such as pipelines, pump stations, dams, spillways, levees, canals, wells, tanks, reservoirs, and groundwater recharge facilities.
• Assist Lead Construction Manager or Lead Resident Engineer in the organization, coordination and management of construction management teams and activities.
• Perform various roles as-needed on CM teams including, but not limited to, construction quality inspection, schedule and cost management, management of RFIs and Submittals, change management, contract administration, document control, construction meetings, and office engineering.
• Support the development and implementation of Construction Management Plans, Quality Management Plans, and Health and Safety Plans.
• Support communication and coordination with other project participants including Owner, Designer, Contractor, and Regulators to keep all parties informed and working together to keep construction projects on track with schedule, budget, quality and safety.
• Support GEI’s engineering and design teams as needed including, but not limited to, feasibility reviews of planning-level studies, constructability reviews of design plans and specifications, biddability reviews of contract documents, input to construction methods and sequencing, input to construction cost estimates and schedules, support for contractor prequalification and review of contractor bids.
• Support GEI project managers, and administrative and operations teams, with internal project tracking and reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
• 0-5 years or more of previous related professional experience.
• Strong work ethic and desire to learn from, and be mentored by, more senior construction management professionals.
• Willingness to perform any and all tasks related to construction management and engineering, as a means to build the necessary knowledge and skills to become an effective Construction Manager or Resident Engineer.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Qualified as, or desire to obtain, Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in California.
• Previous experience in civil construction.
• Familiarity with scheduling software and construction management software such as Primavera P6 and Procore.
