Assistant Camp Director - Sleepaway Camp

Wonderful things can happen in the summertime! Creating impactful programs and supervising a passionate team you can utilize your skills for a valuable experience at Girl Scouts Summer Camp!

Choose from one of our two beautiful Julian properties and join us in leading unforgettable adventures in the great outdoors.

Camp Winacka - A traditional rustic camp with spectacular views. The camp features a pool, miles of hiking trails, green building including a new environmental center and two lakes. Campers choose from programs focusing on aquatics, horses, arts and adventure. Campers and staff sleep in open-air cabins with built-in bunk beds, in platform tents with bunk beds or on cots under the stars.

Camp Whispering Oaks - Features a sports field and basketball court tucked amongst oak and pine trees, unique stargazing venues, abundant wildlife and a small, close-knit camp community. Campers choose from programs focusing on science and space, outdoor skills, sports, theater and the arts. Campers and staff sleep in fully enclosed indoor cabins with electricity and paved, lighted pathways winding through native manzanita, oak and pine trees.

Your summer will look like this:
Under moderate supervision coordinating development of camp specialty areas to ensure high quality and consistent programming to campers. Assisting in pre-camp training, especially in areas of specialty.? ?Ensuring that plans are carried out within appropriate GSUSA, council and ACA policies, standards and procedures and local, state, and federal laws.

• Supervises unit director team, teen leadership coordinators and the camper advocate to ensure consistent delivery of camper program to develop and implement all facets of program. Ensures appropriate opportunities for leadership growth in unit directors and unit staff.?

• Communicates with parents regarding any camper or camp issues in a professional, timely manner.????

• Serves as acting Camp Director when the Camp Director is offsite.??

• In coordination with the Camp Director create a staff development plan for the summer with weekly emphasis points.?

• Manages communication regarding operations of camp buses and camper transportation.??

• Develops appropriate documents and binders of job responsibilities.?

• Works with program director, teen leadership coordinators, camper advocate and unit directors to effectively resolve conflicts.??

• Tracks goals and evaluates achievement of unit directors, teen leadership coordinators, and camper advocate ensuring support throughout goal process.?

• Completes end of camp season evaluations and summary recommendations for future camp operations.?

Here's what it takes:

• Must be at least 21 years of age.?

• BA/BS degree or equivalent years of work experience in outdoor education/organized camp.?

• Two years prior seasons of administration or supervision experience in an organized camp.?

• At least one season of leading or assisting in the logistical coordination of specialty trips.?

• Must be able to obtain current First Aid/CPR/AED certification by first day of campers' arrival.?

• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of resident camp personnel policies/procedures and financial management.?

• Must submit health history record prior to first day of work.?

• Attend support staff meetings.?

• Ability to interact with all age levels.?

• Valid drivers' license, proof of insurance and access to reliable transportation. Daily and/or occasional travel may be required. Must be comfortable driving narrow, winding mountain roads with passengers in mini or cargo vans.?
