About the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH):
The Indiana Department of Health's mission is to promote, protect, and improve the health and safety of all Hoosiers so that they can reach their optimal health regardless of where they live, learn, work, or play.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $61,022 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
Role Overview:
This position exists to perform analysis, design and software development assignments within the Indiana State Department of Health. Working within the Office of Technology and Cybersecurity the individual selected will develop new applications and provide application development/support for legacy Microsoft Net based applications within the Vital Records program utilizing a Agile based team environment.
Knowledge of C#, ASP.NET/VB.NET (.NET frameworks 2.0/3.5/4), Entity Framework, MVC, Visual Studio and SQL/Oracle databases are needed in the role. Knowledge of database design including effective use of keys and views is desired. Position is responsible for ensuring that business requirements are met in a timely manner and incumbent is expected to submit ongoing technical recommendations for the improvement of current processes.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
  • Assist in system testing;
  • Resolve customer complaints with application software and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements;
  • Work with technical staff to understand and resolve problems with application software;
  • Demonstrate software functionality;
  • Develop, code, and debug new application software or make enhancements to existing application software according to general specifications from higher-level staff;
  • Tests and debugs new and existing application software with general instruction, generating comprehensive unit test data, and validating test results;
  • Writes intermediate and difficult application software programs according to specifications from higher-level staff;
  • Uses case tools and/or application development software tools;
  • Provides complete documentation for new or modified application software programs;
  • Develops problem solutions or application software enhancements within defined components.

What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:
  • Good understanding of business application within scope of work assigned;
  • Considerable knowledge of application development software language;
  • Considerable knowledge of policies, standards, procedures, and techniques used for application development;
  • Considerable knowledge of application software tools used to maintain application;
  • Specialized knowledge of information technology equipment, operation, and capabilities;
  • Specialized knowledge of application software flow within defined component;
  • Specialized knowledge and ability to apply problem solving techniques;
  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
